Sammy (2945), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 3, 2008 Alive and well, served up at the brewpub downtown location. On nitro, it had lots of lace and dark colour. Smooth drinking and significant roast. Stine (1268), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Jun 1, 2008 Nitro pour at Fells Point Wharf Rat. Clean black with a heavy cream of gray. Nougat, vanilla, oatmeal aroma; basic, creamy and quiet sweetness. Lightly ashy roast flavor; underlying tannic dark fruit acidic texture that complements the ashy chocolate and lactic sweetness really nicely. Soft, nutty bittersweetness; hazelnut, pistachio. Wet, soft mouthfeel; medium in body with gentlest carbonation livening it up just a touch. Warm, juicy roastiness and au jus beef nearing the finish, where it lands on a dry, reserved black bitterness. A clean, charming, highly drinkable offering. kmweaver (1767), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA May 31, 2008 Pints @ Fells Point Wharf Rat. Pours a very dark cola-brown color; very light tan head with excellent retention and creamy fine-bubbled lacing; a gorgeous pour. Pleasant amounts of roasted malts, milk chocolate, and soft oatmeal / vanilla in the aroma; some powdered donut. Medium mouthfeel: less acidity and bitterness than the Blackfriar; creamy oatmeal and milk chocolate at the core; some solid roastiness and nougat; very drinkable stuff. Medium finish: breadiness, milk chocolate, and a touch of toasted grains. boto (1190), Granby, Connecticut, USA Dec 28, 2007 Draught @ The Wharf Rat: I drank this just after the breakfast hour. This one poured a dark brown, with a tight, nitro creamy head. The aroma was lighter but good. Notes of chocolate and roasty. There was some coffee to the taste, as well as some chocolate and roastiness. Creamy mouthfeel. A decent, but lighter stout. dlovell2 (87), Columbia, Maryland, USA Oct 11, 2007 Smokey Aroma. Sudsy tan head, dark brown color. Sweet chocolate, smoky taste. Very tasty. I’ve had on tap at Wharf Rat in Fells Point before but this one was on cask at the Frisco Grille. I don’t usually care for Cask Conditioned but this one has made me appreciate beers on Cask.
