nimbleprop (819), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA Oct 12, 2009 Sampled on tap at Max’s in Baltimore. Pours a slightly watery, opaque black with a creamy slightly tan head. Aroma has toast, nuts, brown sugar, bread. Flavor is nice but nothing spectacular, sweet sugars, roasted malts, toasted breads. Silky finish, sweet. I can’t say anything bad, but I can’t say this stood out either. hopdog (5527), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 10, 2009 Updated: Oct 11, 2009On tap at KSBF ’09. Poured a deeper brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, lighter roastiness, and oatmeal. Tastes of the same chocolate, roastiness, and oatmeal. A tad on the thinner side (but somewhat expected for the ABV - and it is a ’breakfast’ stout!). CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Oct 4, 2009 On nitro tap at the brewpub on 9/9/09: Pours an opaque black with some creamy dense nitro beige head. Aroma of lightly sweet dark caramel and chocolate notes with a touch of dark fruits. Starts with good fullness and an earthy dark malty sweetness with good roasty bittersweet balance before a smooth creamy finish. A nice stout. ben4321 (957), Rockville, Maryland, USA Sep 11, 2009 Location: Nitro draft (on the menu as "smooth pour") at the Pratt Street Ale House, 9/6/09
Aroma: Malty and sweet nose, chocolate, oatmeal, roasted malts
Appearance: Black color with a creamy brown head and covering lace
Flavor: Mostly malty, nice flavorful stout, roasted and sweet flavors
Palate: Smooth and creamy, medium in body
Overall Impression:
This is a pretty nice beer. I think it works pretty well on the nitro pour, and while it isn’t a great beer it is certainly an enjoyable beer. NomDeBeer (397), Maryland, USA Aug 2, 2009 Nitro pour at Max’s. Rich, smooth mouth feel with a solid roasted malt finish. Coffee, chocolate, and amybe a hint of molasses. Very Gunness-like. Drinkable and enjoyable. kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 2, 2009 On tap, @ Wharf Rat. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, body with a creamy one finger nitro brown head. Pretty roasty and chocolaty with a good amount of oats coming out. A little bit of licorice as well. The flavor has lots of oats too, quite smooth with a nice roastiness and a slight sweetness up front. The finish has just a hint of bitterness. Pretty smooth mouthfeel, but there’s a bit of fizzy carbonation there that makes me thing there’s a bit more CO2 in the mix than usual. Nice lingering finish. Decent, but probably hurt a bit by the nitro. badlizard (2325), Berkeley, California, USA Sep 20, 2008 Dark brown with a creamy tan head. Chocolate roasty and grain aroma and taste. Decent. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 3, 2008 Alive and well, served up at the brewpub downtown location. On nitro, it had lots of lace and dark colour. Smooth drinking and significant roast.
