The aroma is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt and light chocolate. The flavor is chocolaty to start out and towards the end it becomes more roasted. The mouthfeel is very smooth due to it being served on nitrogen. BückDich (4857), McCall, Idaho, USA

Black, tan creamy head. Lots of lacing. Nose of char, strong soy sauce and vegetal notes. The flavor is sweet; fruity roasted mild coffee and chocolate. Excellent finish. dolemike1 (1129), Jeannette, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 30, 2006 Draft at Wharf Rat on Pratt. Comes out black. Small tannish brown head. Hard to tell exactly as the light isn’t the best in the bar. Nose is roasty and sweet with almost a light cinnamon aroma. Odd, but that’s what I smelled when I took my first whiff. Taste is roasty, coffee-ish, with choco notes and a hint of hops. Body is creamy and surprisingly light. Finishes with more roasted malts, chocolate and coffee notes. bu11zeye (5621), Frisco, Texas, USA

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | May 4, 2004 Watery and lacking. Looked like there was something there, but the porter had more to it by far. Rather strange, that. Not a drain pour, but nothing to recommend it. Aaron, is this the one you thought of as an old ale?
