Aroma: Sweet caramel malts, some grassy hops too
Appearance: Dark reddish color
Flavor: Similar characteristics to nose, but a little more robust
Palate: Smooth finish, medium-full body
Overall Impression:
This was a pretty nice Irish red beer, one that wasn’t overly special, but was certainly good enough to be enjoyable.
keepersj12 (774), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA Jun 8, 2009 About average top to bottom. Pours reddish brown with a small head. Hardly any aroma. Taste is malty with some hops at the end. A little watery. kramer (2407), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 2, 2009 On tap @ Wharf Rat. Pours a mostly clear orangish copper body with a small tight bubbled light beige head that retained as a thin film. Slightly sweet nose with just a touch of butteriness. Mostly toasted and some toffee maltiness. No hops noticeable. The diacetyl carries over into the flavor too much for my tastes. Quite buttery with toasty malt and some light fruitiness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a bit of a slick stickiness on the finish. Moderate fizzy carbonation. Overall, not so good. Only had about 2 ounces of this one. badlizard (2325), Berkeley, California, USA Sep 20, 2008 Clear red with a creamy tan head. Malty aroma and taste with a mild bitterness and a creamy mouth feel. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Aug 25, 2008 on tap-pours white bubbles for a head and amber/copper color. Aroma is mild medium malt-some sweet, roasty. Taste is mild medium malt-some sweet, roasty/peat, some fruit-yeast, secondary dry/coppery hops. OK/mild carbonation. abcfan (247), New Jersey, USA Aug 17, 2008 Decent brew, poured hazy red with thin off-white head. Nice aroma of fruit and malt. Easy drinker, malty fruity taste. Bitter finish. Would drink again. boto (1319), Granby, Connecticut, USA Dec 28, 2007 Draught @ The Wharf Rat: This one pours an amber color. It had a small off-white head on it. The aroma was lighter, but contained notes of grassiness and some caramel malt. The taste was decent enough. It had a fairly decent malt body with some hop bite. Not real exciting, but not bad either. Ungstrup (14754), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 18, 2006 A hazy red beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with light notes of berries - I find to too light. The flavor is sweet with quite a lot of lemon, but also light notes of berries as well as hints of wood towards the end, which is bitter and hoppy. Nothing special.
