Commercial Description:
A classic English porter with a smooth mouth feel and with slight hints of licorice. Hopped with only Fuggle hops giving this porter a very dry finish.

Tap. A nice black color. A very strong taste of chocolate malt. A very sweet and smooth porter.

Now this was a good beer. Pretty sweet and flavorful. Caramelly, a common thing for today in Clipper City. A decent brew.

Quite good! Color very dark, almost black, like a typical porter. Cola-like bubbly head. Good flavor, with some nice hops, and a licorice-anise hint. Another good Oliver offering.

A bit oily, perhaps leaning too far on the roast to the point of burnt, but not quite. Some anise. I preferred this to the bland stout and wondered if perhaps the taps were switched, but it was the same at the two Wharf Rats I visited. Certainly had more body than the stout. Fair, but not much more.

Dark brown appearance with an average size head. Subdued aroma with a little of the roasted malts developing as it warms. Just a bit overcarbonated, but a rich, earthy malt taste adds to the medium-bodied flavor. Finishes like a dry stout.

Draft. Pretty average porter. Wasn't dark enough for me. Had a slight roasty bite.

This opened up as it warmed. As the brewery advertises, this is in the brown porter (vs. robust porter) tradition. Not much of the coffee/chocolate notes you would find in Fuller’s or Sierra Nevada. This is more like an ale version of a Dunkel. Nice, caramel malt with some complexity, rather than toasted grains. Nice.
