Commercial Description:
A good first dark beer. Chocolate and black patent malts give porter a roasted flavor and dark color. Mildly hopped with German hops for a nicely balanced flavor.

Sample at the brewpub. This brew pours black with a thin beige head that has decent retention. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is smoky with hints of caramel malt and vinegar. Medium-bodied with flavors of roasted malt, caramel and chocolate, and some coffee and vinegar in the background. The finish is weak coffee and malt with a slight hops aftertaste. Below average overall.

On tap at brewery, 02/04/08. Transparent dark brown with long-lived carbonation. No detectable aroma from taster glass. Smooth, nutty flavor. Mostly clean finish with some lingering malt. Hops flavors so mild as to be undetectable. Simple, not terrbily flavorful.

Aroma is that of light roast, nuts, caramel, and a touch of smokey chocolate. Pours a thinnish looking dark brown with a small head. Flavor is sweet with chocolate and caramel dominating. A minute amount of roast and smoke come in at the end. Thin body.

On tap. Dark black, carbonated looking pour that resembles cola and has very little head. Light aromas of caramel roasted coffee and sweetened chocolate. Mouthfeel is a bit on the thin side, and brings an extra sweet maltiness to the palate. Final smack of hazelnut coffee.

Slightly clouded reddish brown appearance. Roasted coffee aroma. Sweet roasted coffee flavor, dark chocolate, creamy, nutty roasty finish. Decent porter but not sure where the added alcohol contributes to the character.
