Commercial Description:
O'Malley's Irish Style Bitter (ISB) is our own take on English ESB. Amber to red in color, this ale isn’t wanting for malt or hops. Take a step back in time with this traditional bitter.

Interesting flavor, different. Nicely bitter, not unpleasant. Attractive copper color with a thick frothy head, very effervescent. Slightly metalic on the finish. I liked it better than I thought I would, but then again, I was really in the mood for something different, and this was.

This was a pretty decent beer. It poured an amber color with a decent white head. Taste was a little bitter but not too bad. This was a decent beer from Weston MO

Medium-bodied. Fairly well spiced. More fruitness than I prefer from something labeled a bitter style beer. In my opinion it is quite drinkable but I do not agree with the discription of being almost an ESB which is how it was described to me at the pub.

12oz. bottle (really more like 10.5). Aroma is fruity and very lightly sweet, some cotton candy, citrus and acetaldehyde. Mostly clear light-medium amber color with an absurdly massive head that took quite some time to subside, leaving stringy clumps of lacing behind. Flavor is lightly tart and dry, with a touch of toasty malt here and there, and a certain sour, metallic, bitter finish. Lightly astringent and a bit flat on the palate as most of the CO2 ventilated while the head subsided. Body is light-medium. I don’t see the point in finishing this stuff, I’m just going to go open a good beer and drink that instead.

Pours a lightly hazy amber with a huge, fluffy, off-white head that takes its sweet time diminishing. The aroma is of a tart, sour funk similar to a Berliner weiss. It’s not too bad after the initial shock, but I’m guessing that this aroma isn’t intentional. Light-bodied and tart with a lingering sour finish that moves towards solid astringency at the finish. The flavor follows the nose and is sour and astringent with a light toasted malt note underneath. The bottom line: is everything these guys bottle infected? Amazingly, this one is fairly interesting in its soured state, but the big hit of astringency that comes at the finish make it pretty much undrinkable.

12 oz bottle pours a clear amber. Aroma is herbal hops and some sort of spice. Taste is more of the herbal hop bitterness. Its decent, but I wouldn’t seek it out again.

Aroma of grapefruit, spruce and rye bread. Initial head is off white-full but brief. Minimal lacing, amber, clear. It has a moderate hop profile-pine and grapefruit/ orange notes. A little breadiness. Seem more a well done APA than a bitter because of the hoppiness. It has a nice lingering finish that has a pleasant spiciness. Mongo like.

Over carbonated in bottles. New at O’Malley’s, this will be bottled in the fall (’07). It was described to me as somewhere between a bitter and an ESB. I tried a couple of pints while listening to the great Bob Reeder. The body was light amber with a light khaki colored head. Aroma was light grapefruit with some toffee and roast peanuts. The taste was slightly bitter with some orange peel. This also had some toast and roasted peanuts. Nice and balanced with a light body. You come to O’Malley’s for the atmosphere and entertainment first, having a good beer just adds to the experience.
