Commercial Description:
While living in Germany during the 1990’s John fell in love with this amazing beer. There are few things more enjoyable than standing outside a historic brewpub on a warm summer evening in Düsseldorf’s Altstadt (“old city”), drinking a cold, refreshing Altbier as the sun sets over the Rhein river. Alt (pronounced ‘Aahlt’) literally means “old” in German, as in “old school.” In other words, it’s beer the old fashioned way. Technically, OMB Copper is ale due to the type of yeast it’s made from (Obergärig or top fermenting yeast), but a long time ago the folks in Düsseldorf learned that by lagering their Alt for several weeks after primary fermentation, the result was a full-flavored yet smoother and more refreshing beer. OMB uses authentic ingredients in our Copper Altbier, including expensive (but worth it) noble Bavarian hops. We also adhere to traditional, time consuming, costly decoction brewing techniques to produce this copper hued, amazingly satisfying “lagered ale.”

On tap at Moosehead bar in Charlotte. Poured to a golden copper with thin off white head that dissipated fairly quickly with little lacing. Aroma was predominantly grainy, with a hint of floral and earth scents. Taste followed the graininess of the nose, with a slightly bitter mouthfeel. Finish was short, and slightly bitter. Not terrible, but nothing to wirte home about.

WBF. Pours a pale copper with a one finger offwhite head. The nose is sweet, grassy hops and some wet hay. Flavor is sweet and malty, some corn, grassy, very mild hay flavor. Palate shows a very mild bitterness.

Draft at Revolution pizza over the weekend. Really tasty alt. I’m so stoked to have a new brewery in town, not only that but a german style brewery. I’m going to get a keg of this, methinks.

Taste 3/9 Growler. Looks: Copper body with a thin yeasty spotty top. Aroma: Very fresh grain and yeast spice. Taste: Full bodied with a cereal and yeast spice. A very metallic finish kills an otherwise good beer.
