daleharshman (181), San Diego, California, USA Mar 6, 2009 Bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar (Escondido, CA). Pours a great deep and dark burgundy into tulip glass with only about one finger of quickly disappearing beige head. Light aroma of dark fruit with only a bit of yeast.
Weaker yeast flavor than in most dubbels. Lighter mouthfeel and lower carbonation than most dubbels. Hints of fruit in the flavor, but the sweet maltiness mostly overpowers it. This could use a more hops. Quite smooth, but I think I actually like my dubbels more "rough" with more yeastiness, hops, and carbonation. Altogether I find this one a bit overrated, though the price is decent in the US. Krasulak (63), Wapadrand, Pretoria, South Africa Mar 5, 2009 Poured hazy reddish-brown with a creamy beige head that dissipated slowly leaving good lacing. Aroma was mildly spicy, fruity and yeasty. Sweet, fruity flavour witth a touch of floral honey (Tripel Karmeliet comes to mind) and a note of caramel.
Quite a multilayered flavour. Medium body with a dry and lightly hoppy finish. Outstanding dubbel! Cavie (1317), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Mar 4, 2009 Very strong IPA taste that does not resolve after swallow. Unexpected for a dubbel. zapprentice (309), East Setauket, New York, USA Mar 3, 2009 Overrated to me. An ok beer for it’s availability, but will go for other beers much quicker than this. Fruity smell, fruit undertones in the flavor. jimmack34 (560), Lancaster, Ohio, USA Mar 3, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours hazy red-brown with a creamy off white head. Smells of fermented fruit. Tastes very fruity, peach, pears, apricot, and apple. Nice soft body. Some hints of spice follow through. Very nice beer. uhclem (188), Loveland, Colorado, USA Mar 1, 2009 I have to say this did not do it for me. The flavor and mouthfeel were watery, and the finish was heavy. This needs more hops. Beershine (2678), Hue, Vietnam Feb 27, 2009 750 bottle. Deep burgundy color with thick long-lasting tan head and lace. Malty sweet aroma of bread pudding, raisins, dates, prunes, nuts, bread, and dark sugars. Nice smooth carbonation and excellent palate. Delightfully full of bread pudding character and ending with a definitive smash of toffee. Totally enjoyable and pairs really well with foods. mbsmith (22), Missouri, USA Feb 22, 2009 This is a good dubbel. Nice vinuous and yeasty aroma, maybe some apricot in there, too. Looks like a typical brown dubbel in color with a unique hint of orange that really comes through in the head. The taste is similar to the aroma, i like the "burgundian" term used on the label, which is the quality that sets it apart from other dubbels. A good interpretation of the style and a great beer for the money. I dare you to find a better dubbel that you can buy for less than $2 per 12oz or $6 for a 750.
