jbender (17), Hatboro, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 20, 2009 From 750 mL bottle. Pours out with a hazy brown appearance with a 2 finger white head that holds very well. Caramel dominates the aroma, with fruity smells from the belgian teast also coming through. This fruitiness comes out more in the flavor, with the high ABV hidden extremely well (feels more like a 6%). Almost over carbonated...get a slight fizzy feeling on the tongue. Overall a very good ale. kwerikson (62), burlington, New Jersey, USA Oct 19, 2009 pours out a ruby oarnge with a thick off white head with really strong fruit aromas popping up as soon as it poured. nice lacing around the inside of the glass. it has a deep maroon burgundy body to it with a good amount of bubbles rising up from the center of the glass. i can smell apples, grapes, honey, caramel malts and a tiny hint of alcohol. the taste is somewhat bitter with a huge malty character to it that finishes dry and sweet, kind of cool. there is a god amount of carbonation and i can also pick up the toffee and chocolate on the tip of my tongue. aftertaste is mild and doesnt linger, very good palabilty. Pinball (2693), Allerød, Denmark Oct 18, 2009 Dark cloudy brown, large fluffy head.
aroma is caramelly, spicy, malty, faint toffee, faint hops.
flavor is sweet malty, caramel toffee, belgian spices, cardemom, faint dark fruity, very faintly oxidized.
ljstephenson (111), Lawton, Oklahoma, USA Oct 15, 2009 Hazy reddish-brown pour with a thin tan head. Aroma hints at berries, raisins and roasted malt. Flavor is quite sweet with raisins, strong alcohol presence and other fruits. Finishes soft and smooth, an above average dubbel. JensenTaster (1585), Denmark Oct 14, 2009 (on bottle) Dark, claer red, beige head. Graet aroma, mix of vintage port and marzipan. Perky and then the wrath of a very hefty 8,5% hits in. Odd, for such a low percentage. Haevy malts and figs takes it home for a long warm finish. crhensel (8), New Jersey, USA does not count Oct 11, 2009 (12 oz bottle poured into trappist glass) Poured a deep brown/mahogany color with beautiful head and lacing. Aroma reminiscent of sugary fruit and toffee. The sweet aroma does not disappoint as the taste brings forward a nice caramel note with a great malt sweetness. Finishes crisp with a slightly bitter note, but overall an excellent mouthfeel and predinner compliment to cheese, or (as I had it) a beautiful compliment to chocolate cake! iamqueensblvd (178), , Iowa, USA Oct 10, 2009 Tan head on the top of a dark brown pour. caramel sweetness along with some malt on the nose. Slight nuttiness with some caramel notes. pretty decent finish on the palate. Great mouth feel. forsides (66), union, New Jersey, USA Oct 10, 2009 wonderful abbey dubbel. deeo brown/red with a lovely head. fruity, prune, sweet, yeasty, slight alcohol burn, great mouthfeel.
