Fruit, raisins and malty aroma. Flavour of malt, caramel, toffee. Big malt finish. This is a winner and one to sip and savour. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA

Poured brown with a creamy yellowish head that left a thin layer lasting and good lace. Aromas of fruits, caramel, and a licorice background. The flavor found a nice mix of fruit and malts with a light licorice background. Medium body, dry, lively carbonation. Enjoyable!! TeamTrappist (378), jericho, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 22, 2008 Bottle, poured a dark copper with a thin off white head. Slightly fruity and yeasty nose. Decent depth of flavors with hints of dark fruit, and candied sugars. Nicely balanced. Somewhat similar to rochefort 8, but not at the same level. It is my belief that this brewery has improved significantly over the last few years. scoth (274), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA

Smells of apple, caramel, toffee and hay. Medium, velvety body. Big malt flavor, apple and caramel, well-balanced with a nice grassy, bitter aftertaste. dnlsartin (68), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 18, 2008 A pleasingly complex Belgian-style abbey ale. Dark, medium body. Lasting, shallow, fizzy head. Aroma of fruits and spices. I taste figs, raisins, pomegranate, honey, maple, and cinnamon. Chocolate and toffee finish. gte620v (29), Georgia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 15, 2008 The beer has a pleasing texture, dark hardy appearance and full aroma. It tastes slightly harsh: a touch too bitter for my preference. Otherwise, the beer flavors are well balanced. The amount of carbonation is moderate, agreeable and typical of Belgian Abbey Ales. The head consistency and volume is consistent with Abbey Ale: it is dense and almost cloud-like filling no more than 1/2 an inch of vertical space in my goblet. Overall, the beer is good, but not my favorite Abbey Ale. johnnysmoke (54), Texas, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Dec 15, 2008 Belgian style with lots of great caramel, licorice, chocolate, dark fruit and chicory flavors. It has a strong carbonation but with a smooth palate. Out of the bottle the aroma is very strong. The aroma becomes richer and full bodied once the chill is off the bottle. The head was off-white and medium in color. The flavor is just as delicious as the aroma. Finishes with a nice alcohol bitterness and lingers on your tongue. This is an excellent beer. 17thfloor (1444), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 13, 2008 Updated: Dec 14, 200812 ounce bottle a year+ old. Pours a sticky looking murky maroon with a small fine fizzy beige head, must be too cold. Very rich sweet aroma, more like an english barleywine, sugary, loads of caramel and toffee, some oxidation, fruits, and doughiness. Taste is similar, barleywine like, rich velvety red berries, caramel and toffee, lightly nutty, slightly doughy, pretty straight forward with a slight tang. Its tasty but not exceptional. Nice body, medium, lightly syrupy with lots of fine easy drinking softer fizzy carbonation.
