Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Pours a light amber with a thin light soapy head. Sour and spicy aroma with a yeast and alcohol pleasance. The flavor is sweet and tangy, Cherries, and current and a nice wine flavor finish. Palate is sweet and pleasant.

Bottle. Nose is fruity-sweet, cherries and raspberries, with caramel notes. Thick dark amber with a thick head that drops down to a nicely lacing thin foam. Opens sweet with very minor spice notes especially in the finish. Lots of fruit and intense sweetness, but fairly well balanced. An enjoyably thick palate stands up to the candy-sweetness.

750 mL bottle. Pours a clear dark amber (cloudy if you toss in the yeast) with a enormous tan head that sticks around and leaves some fine lacework. Mild carbonation. Nose is a little thin but still there is some unsweet chocolate, raisins, alcohol, red licorice, toffee. Taste is nicely balanced. Medium to thin on the palate. Aftertaste is dry with notes of nutty malt and unsweet chocolate that lingers. Overall like a stout and abbey dubbel combined. Commercial description is dead-on....strange.

12 oz bottle. Pours to dark body with almost no head. Flavor is somewhat fruity with hints of chocalate. Tastes somewhat like a stout but with a thinner mouth-feel. Aroma is almost non-existant. All in all a good double at a nice price.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy dark amber color with a large frothy light tan head that lasts awhile. The aroma is a sweet fruity malt with licorice, raisin, and caramel. Good sticky lacing on the glass. The taste is a very dry malt that does not hide alcohol well, but still a very well done abbey dubbel from Ommegang.

Pours with a very large, rocky, light brown head covering a very deep brown body with reddish highlights. Great lacing. Aroma of currants, raisins, rotten apples, dates, prunes, chocolate, caramel and a bit of banana. Taste is banana, bubble gum, licorice, nutty malts and alcohol with a decently roasted backbone throughout. Lively bubbles with a water like mouthfeel. Tastes like the same or similar yeast to thier Belgian Stout (Chocolate Indulgence).

Bottle. Poured a bunch of this in to my carbonnade and saved the rest for myself. Pours a lustrous crimson red with a big foamy colo colored head. Aroma is sweet and tart with notes of chocolate and cherries, very nice. Flavor is nutty with rich dark fruity flavors and a bitter sweet finish. Full bodied and dry.

Probably the best commericial description that i have read. A little too dry for my liking. I did taste a little cinnamon mixed in with the flavors.
