| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 6, 2008 Pours a very deep maroon with voluminous head that quickly dissipates, yet never disappears entirely. Current bottle has been aged approximately 9 months since purchase, due to the over-whelming spiciness of this brew fresh. Aroma is still of heavy spice, of dark fruit, belgian funk, as well as faint cherry tartness and licorice. Taste is very deep and much more well-balanced than when fresh. The effervescent carbonation really helps to scrub the palate from the heavy dubbel taste, which makes it even more satisfying. This time around was much better than previous experiences. For people who are not fond of heavy spicing, I would definitely recommend aging it awhile to let some of that drop out. mikalooch (163), , New Jersey, USA

Aroma of cherries and yeast, almost smells like a cognac. Malt and fruit to start, finishes with a flat kind of sourness which sticks around. Medium carbonation, leaves a bit of stickiness to it. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 1, 2008 Opaque deep ruddy brown pour with a layer of a tan head that lingers and leaves a veil all the way down the glass as it recedes. Really a beautiful thing. The nose is dried fruits, some sugars and a hint of funk. The flavor has those influences that blend nicely, with the addition of cocoa like a chocolate covered cherry and a touch of licorice. Very enjoyable. Nik925 (303), California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 25, 2008 Malt and brett notes dominate smell and taste. Layers of malt and cherries in this rich and dark brew. The yeast layer was packed down into a brick like layer in the bottom of the bottle (worth mentioning). Great carb with a bubbly sour finish. Was really surprised this came out of NY and upon reading the bottle, it didn’t, it came from Belgium, which sounds right. A great dubble but slightly too sweet overall. A great brew.
