Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

12 oz. bottle. Pour was nice as expected, 2 fingers of caramel cream head, deep dark red, almost black in some light, some lacing, head stays for the most part. Aroma overall is refreshing, not overpowering, strawberry shortcake with toffee bread, sweet caramel hard candy, maybe I’m a little nuts with that description but it was that good. Mouthfeel is pretty close to perfect as well, creamy and fluffy, in the middle it feels like almost nothing is in my mouth , then there is a minor bite right at the end. Sadly, the actual flavor is the weakest experience of this beer if you can say that, very sweet, malt dominated flavor, caramel toasted marshmallow maintains throughout. This beer was fantastic, though just maybe too onesided on the sweet side for me, but still... good stuff.

(Bottle). Aroma of spices, slightly medicinal. Pours dark reddish brown. Medium head. Flavor sweet, with orange. Smooth through the finish. Pleasant enough, but not overly impressive.

I’d call the color mahogany/reddish. Brownish head. Nose is woody and spicy. Feels great on the tongue. Taste is complex, with hints of spiciness and fruit but well balanced with the malts. I really like this beer.

*******MY 100TH******* Bottle listed as 1pt 9.4 ounces- poured out a brilliant amber, clear with a giant cola-colored head. The head itself was incredibly bitter. The aroma was mildly fruity and sweet. The taste was rich with hints of malt, yeast and citrus. Palate was excellent, very smooth. Not bad at all.

2k7 bottle. Pours a perfect dark brown with a huge but dissipational head. Aroma is caramel raisin and yeast, taste is similar w/malts and a nicely accentuated bit of hops. Well regarded.

750 ml bottle. Pours a ruby red, with a pillowy head. The aroma is of pure sweetness and fruits. It has a full mouthfeel, a well balanced flavor profile of fruits, caramel and some spice, and has a clean dry finish. Another quality ale from Ommegang.

Very nice appearance deep caramel red color nice tan head very good retention. Strong alchohol presence rich fruity tones good caramel and toffee aroma, some hints of chocolate malt in the roastiness. Fruity finish definitely dates, figs maybe some plum did not pick up the anise that others seem to have. Very nice belgian style Ommegang is good at what they do for sure. Making a trip to central NY this fall plan to take a tour. If you like Belgians you’ll appreciate this one.
