Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Pours a nice burgundy cloudy color with a light brown head. Mild aroma of sweetness and hints of berries. Creamy texture with sweet flavor. Fruity with rich maltiness. Notable alcohol presence. Tasty dubbel.

Enjoy this beer alot, had a very good taste, very enjoyable, highly recommend trying this out, split it between 2 other friends, so about 1 glass per person, good amount of alchohol.

Bottle Pours out a dark copper topped with a nice off white head. Aroma of pit fruit all over this one. Tast more of the sweet fruit. Along with some yeast.

Pours a deep caramel color with a full head. Smells of dark fruit, perhaps plum and has a strong licorice taste. Been a while since I have had this style and remember why I enjoy it. Chewy feel and a nice finish.

750ml bottle from BevMo Mission Valley. Pours dark brown with a slight ruby hue. A big beige head with good carbonation left great lacing. Tons of sweetened dark fruits on the nose with some Belgian yeast and light hops. A fairly sweet finish with (again) some Belgian yeast, another great one from Ommegang.

750 mL bottle from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Reddish brown with a medium frothy head. Very fruity aroma... dates, banana, brown sugar. Anise comes through strongly in the taste, with some malty sweetness and fruitiness. Interesting, but this anise is a bit too strong for my taste.

This is complex. Its fruity, but I could not quite pin down the fruit. Definitely some fig, date, plum kind of stuff going on, but I could swear I sensed some pear. Nice finish with a little fig aftertaste, but not sweet. Their is no discernible alcohol flavor in this higher gravity brew.

Bottle. Dark copper pour with generous pillowy off-white head. Very sweet smell- malt, caramel, burnt sugar, cotton candy, and dates. A hint of sour wood on the nose, and also sometimes metallic notes. I swear this beer alternated between a few different distinct smells every third time I sniffed it, and occasionally the smell hit me as unpleasant. Similar on the palate. Sometimes it hit right, but sometimes it just felt too sweet or metallic. Haven’t had a double in awhile, and I know they’re not typically very yeasty, but I just kept wanting something to funk it up just a bit. A very nice beer, though.
