Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

wonderful reproduction of an abbey dubbel. malt clobbers the hops with subdued raisins and a thick dark red apperance. aroma is surprisingly stifled despite its hefty color. the typical dubbel flavors are present but dulled compared to others in the style. still, this is far from falling short -- booze factor is minimum on the palate but maximum on the brain, immediate relaxation takes places after a few swallows. in the end, ill stick with a pater 8 or something similiar, but for the price this cant be beat. another very strong showing for ommegang!

Pours red mahogany with a rich white head. Aroma of banana, raisins, slight citrus, and alcohol. Flavor is strong malts with fruit and alcohol. The palate reflects more alcohol. The beer is nicely balanced despite strong alcohol presence.

Deep red pour, with a solid head. Pretty sweet, fruit aroma. Flavor is very nice - plums, toffee, vanilla, spice, licorice. Decent carbonation, pretty full bodied, solid mouthfeel. Good beer.

Reddish brown in color with an off-white foamy head. Sweet fruit aroma. Malty sweet taste with dark fruit (cherry and plum) and yeast, ending with some sourness, spice, and bitter hops. Nice carbonation and medium mouthfeel. This has always been a very sloid beer over the years.

Red brown coloured. Fruitiness and maybe some soap in the nose. Average carbonation. Mild hoppiness. A little bit sourness in the end. Not too sweet.

Big bottle shared w/ Simon. This was a lot better than expected. This has been cellared for at least 8 months...forgot about this guy. Nose was a soothing mix of brown sugars, belgian yeast, dark senuous malts, sweet fruits. Flavor was much the same with a delicate mouthfeel, smooth and soft on the palate. This almost sheds some similarity to a mini-Rochefort 10 - mouthfeel and flavors and on par...just a smaller scale. With that said - I dug this. Nothing mind blowing, but just a solid beer and one I would welcome revisiting.
