Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Bottle: Poured a dark brown color with a nice amount of head. The aroma was sweet caramel malts with a tiny bit of spice. The flavor was smooth and malty with just a bit of bitterness and tartness. Overall, this was an excellent beer from on of my favorite breweries.

750ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki, Bitter and Sour 2008)
Dark brown, very tight wispy head. Yeasty blue cheese aroma. Quite lively in the mouth. Full-bodied, but not as full as I would hope and expect from a dubbel, which it claims to be. On swallowing it fills out a little. Decent grainy taste, but spoilt by slightly too prominent alcohol. A very good simulacrum of Belgian brews, but not a patch on their best.

Bottle @ thewolfs pre-festival tasting, Kolding.
[thank you, drmatt]
Pours deep red with a giant frothy/creamy beige-brown head. Aroma has loads of caramel and dried, ripe fruits. Some light yeasty tartness with toffee and dry grassy hops. Lovely creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is wonderful, light tart, very dry, some plums and toffee. Really nice brew.

Bottle pours a dark reddish brown with a thin tan head. Mild aroma is mostly yeast and dried fruits. Lots of different flavors going on here...malt, yeast, spices, brown sugar, dried fruit, and even caramel. Very carbonated mouthfeel. Nice aftertaste with a slight bitterness.

3/26/08 notes: 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark amber with a two finger tan head. Smell of soft malts, butterscotch, and some spices. Flavor is a robust combination of coriander, clove, some orange peel and a smooth blend of hops and malts. What really impresses me about this beer is its combination of well-blended spices and a very tasty mildly sweet hoppy finish. The carbonation is a little on the fizzy side, I wonder if this might mellow with age. Overall, I am a huge fan of this brew, and it is one of Ommegang’s top offerings.

Amber color with a slight head. Earthy, yeasty candi sugar smell. Rich, full bodied flavors mirror the aroma with spicy yeast, toasted earthy malt with a sugar honey sweetness. Not too bad.

Bottle from Liquor Barn in Redding, CA. Poured dark with malt and dark fruit nose. I felt that the flavors overpowered this brew, but it may have been too cold as it smoothed as it warmed. Drink at 55.

Wicked tastey brew. Pours a deep dark brown colour with a full sized head. fairly sweet and heavily carbonated. Prevalent nutty character, milk chocolate, caramel, and raisin on the palate. Aroma is fruity, ginger-bread cookies, cinnamon and brown sugar on the nose.
