Big burgundian brew with all the bells and whistles. Rich, ruby pour. Nose of cocoa, cinnamon, dried fruit, alcohol. More balanced than expected on the palate with just enough hops to prevent a cloying effect. Chocolate-covered cherries, licorice, and spice on a warm alcohol finish. Delicious. May I have another? killjoy966 (218), Washington, USA

Notes of toffee and possibly banana. Finish is mildly bitter and dry. An excellent beer, but could stand a little less carbonation. roebuck (44), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 19, 2008 Bottle pours a red / brown. Huge fluffy cloud like head. Good toffee flavor, but I was expecting a bit more something from this. Overall not bad, but not Ommegangs best. esjaygee (1519), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA

Taste is sweet – caramel, licorice, fruit and overly malty. Mild sourness on the finish but overall a quality brew. yespr (11905), Copenhagen O, Denmark

Light spiced, mild fruity and yeasty aroma. Flavour is sweet fruity with a light caramel and mild yeasty note following. Nicely spiced to provide some dryness and light acidic touch to the otherwise rather sweet dubbel brew. Light estery finish. Goes fantastic with barbequed chicken and turkish potatoes. Flavor is nicely sweet, some molasses and plums, lots of candy sugar. Hints of nuts and mild toasty bitterness, pleasingly fruity and rich, lovely kiss of chocolate at the end. Full and chewy, nice mouthfeel. Nice easy beer for the beginner. rampmaster (318), Alden, New York, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Apr 18, 2008 An excellent abbey ale from an outstanding brewery. It pours a dark burgundy color with a thick white head. The body is dark and hazy, full of wonderful flavor and aromas. The aroma is filled with caramel malts, fruit and spice, as well as an alcohol kick in the nose. The palate is full and the alcohol has a nice warming quality to it. Favors of sweet caramel, dried dark cherries, prune, and yeast dance on the tongue. These favors mingle for a time and finish slowly. Ommegang is grate as it is and could be even better with cellaring. ciuspan (94), Hillerød, Denmark
