norsedoc (162), USA Apr 6, 2008 Bottle. Hazy medium brown ale with dense tan head. Definitely some fruit and clove aroma. Flavor is full with and slightly sweet. Chocolate notes, not very sour at all. Dry finish. Better than most Belgian dubbels I’ve tried. Hopdup (71), Tampa, Florida, USA Apr 6, 2008 My first impression was the smell of garbage, I believe the one i picked out may have been contaminated in the bottling process but I drank it anyway. It poured a dark copper color with a thick head that dissapated slowly. Slightly fruity flavor, with hints of spice and prunes?. The alcohol was a little too prevalant in this one. A sipper allfreej (358), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Apr 6, 2008 Bottled. Poured clear, brown, with a foamy tan head, which left a decent amount of lace on the glass. Nose was raisins, molasses, plum, and brown bread. Flavor was very complex with hints of raisins, cherries, wood, candy sugar and alcohol and vinous tones. Mouthfeel was medium and nicely carbonated. A dry finish without being astringent with a warm alcohol undertone. Stefano (1321), Esbjerg, Denmark Apr 4, 2008 Dark reddish brown color with a medium, beige head. Aroma is mostly carmel and sweet. Flavor is toffee and licorice, caramel, fresh bread, tobacco leaves, figs and plantains. Finish is tobacco and dry chocolate. fluffy (229), Florida, USA Apr 3, 2008 spicy and nutty aroma as it pours creating a lite lacy head. dark red color. malty and thick spread across the palette. some figgyness and nuttiness strong on the caramel overtones. alcohol is evenly balanced whatever temperature it is. all in all a good abbey style ale. goldbrew (99), USA Apr 1, 2008 Very enjoyable Belgian strong ale. Similar in feel and scope to the Lost Abbey 10 Commandments with less raisin notes. But fine malt forward balance without overemphasizing the sweetness. Hint of spice on the finish. Fruit is darker with more depth and less tang. Prune or dark rum flavor finish. Enjoyable and expertly made. Still missing that spark that a Chimay Blue seems to retain. jdryan (2), USA does not count Apr 1, 2008 Great head retention/pour. Very well balanced between malts, yeast and aromatic fruits. The taste belies the color a bit, could be stronger. Zinister (1199), Houston, Texas, USA Mar 31, 2008 Dark red-brown pour with good sized head that has great lacing. Nose is darker pitted fruits, nuts, yeast with a sweetness as well. Flavor is caramel, cherry, spice and some raisins.
