| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 8, 2007 Cloudy, dark chestnut body with a nearly uniform off-white head. After about one minute, the head dissipates to a thin film. The lacing is spotty and sudsy looking. There is an appealing aroma of caramel, candy sugar, dark fruits, apples, root beer, and a faint bit of alcohol. The flavor blends all of these aromatic elements together into a sweet, creamy, fruity caramel concoction. The taste is really, really good. I would classify the body as medium and very smooth. It’s sweet but not overly sticky. Alcohol is apparent, but not excessively so. Very nice brew. Probably my favorite out of the standard Ommegangs. drewbeerme (2306), Chicago, Illinois, USA

The taste is sweet yet tart w/ a very clean finish. A very unique beer, well worth the price. alexanderj (2280), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 28, 2007 Bottle from some ale house in New York. This was a solid and enjoyable brew. The dark fruits and chocolatey Belgian malt were the star of the show. The alcohol was hidden, or at least it was by that time of night. Good mouthfeel. Good beer. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA

Serving: 750 mL bottle (8.5% ABV). Thanks Matt!
Event: Weekly Friday night tasting.
Location: River’s Bend Wine & Spirits.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Sweet berries, caramelized fruit, and brown sugar.
Appearance: Dark ruby copper with a dense, rocky, dark beige/light tan colored head.
Flavor: Mellow British maltiness (caramel, toffee, light butterscoth flavors), figs, and some sort of red wine depth. The alcohol strength is controlled and is quite mellow as compared to the Ommegang Hennepin (even though the alchohol content is higher in this beer). The flavor seems to flatten out some as the beer warms.
Palate: Medium to medium-full body. Smooth on the palate with a bit of creamy feeling as well.
Overall: This beer is complex, interesting, and very easy and enjoyable to drink. Ommegang makes some really good beers at a great price (750 mL bottle for only $4.99+tax!). .
