Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

750mL, no date. Pours a cloudy reddish brown with a three finger beige head. Aroma of yeast, powdered sugar, raisins, dust, and apples. Flavor has the addition of some chocolate and caramel, maybe even a little graham crackers. Quite well balanced, very little bitterness noted--leans more towards sweetness, for sure, though it has a dry finish. Moderate carbonation, medium to full bodied. Quite nice.

Bottle. Pours mahogany-red with a large head that dissipates fairly quickly to a small cap. Bubblegum, wheat, brown sugar and spice aroma, with maybe some Thai fish sauce. Bubblegum-wheat, salty and malty molasses flavor is pretty well balanced, but really too salty and kind of bland for my taste. Palate is medium-bodied, mostly smooth and has some alcohol. Not overly complex and definitely overrated. The dubbel is one of my favorite styles and this one is just average.

pours a murky brow color with red hues and a large off white - tan head, aromas of citrus, belgian style spices and sweetness, the taste was smooth and sweet, citrusy, & carbonated, a good well rounded beer.

Aroma was so pleasant...plum, vanilla, citrus rind, and more. The 12 oz bottle was more enjoyable. I think my 750ml was too young as the yeast was floating top & bottom and the dry finnish wasn’t as prevailant. The bottle itself is chock full of info. I highly recommend this beautiful tasty ale.

Dark reddish brown hue, good fizz and head formation. Banana milkshake aroma, mild hints of toast, earthiness and fruit. Medium bodied, smooth palate. Sweet banana flavor with licorice and burnt toffee imparting a little dryness in the finish. Nice complexity.

Sampled at Hop Leaf: Mainly malt; caramel and toffee with a taste of citrus and dried fruit. I get more honey flavor as it warms. Alcohol well hidden, but lurking.

12oz Bottle. Rated blind. First out of a set of 12 Abbey Dubbels. Strong aroma of banana yeasts, full pear and a bit of bread. Incredibly fruity. Pours a brilliant clear deep ruby red, with a plenty of ochre-tinted head, rocky and lacing long. Boozy, sharp malt flavor up front. A twinging metallic pilsner malt base, yields some strong alcohols and a bit of lime juice. Odd. Prickly. The flavor profile isn’t particularly wonderful. A sharp, biting metallic flavor, with overly strong, unbalanced alcohols. Ends a bit thin. Less than mediocre in my book. GUESS: La Trappe

Bottle. Must've got a little warm, because this opened with a gusher. Fortunately, I saved most of it. A thin, fizzy head under a dark brown body. Has a deep, rich taste of molasses or brown sugar, with subtle spiciness and tart highlights. Carbonation gives it kind of a champagne-like texture. It's winey-sweet without being cloying, and I also get notes of slow charries and raisins. Pouring in the sediment from the bottom adds an impression of grape tannins. Very finely done.
