Aroma of malt and dark fruit. Taste is dark fruit and honey with a caramel and malt aftertaste. Thick chewy mouthfeel. A little too sweet for my taste. AmEricanbrew (1838), Washington DC, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 13, 2008 Amber color with a slight head. Earthy, yeasty candi sugar smell. Rich, full bodied flavors mirror the aroma with spicy yeast, toasted earthy malt with a sugar honey sweetness. Not too bad. thegreenrooster (1835), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Apr 10, 2004 Pours a deep brown. The aroma is the best part of this brew. Flavor is like candy apples. Imatation of of Belgian brews. Good but not quite as good as the originals. RAYBOY01 (1834), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 6, 2005 Sampled at Hop Leaf: Mainly malt; caramel and toffee with a taste of citrus and dried fruit. I get more honey flavor as it warms. Alcohol well hidden, but lurking. nearbeer (1834), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 7, 2007 Updated: Sep 28, 2008Bottle. Pours mahogany-red with a large head that dissipates fairly quickly to a small cap. Bubblegum, wheat, brown sugar and spice aroma, with maybe some Thai fish sauce. Bubblegum-wheat, salty and malty molasses flavor is pretty well balanced, but really too salty and kind of bland for my taste. Palate is medium-bodied, mostly smooth and has some alcohol. Not overly complex and definitely overrated. The dubbel is one of my favorite styles and this one is just average. SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 3, 2004 Bottle. Brown and hazy, amber highlights when held to light and a thick off-white head that diminished in a dawdling way. Rich, complex aroma features dark roasted malts, yeast, molasses, deep red wine and tannic hops. Flavor is sweet and bitter, bready with noticible alcohol. Medium body and creamy carbonation. Nice ale, but from Ommegang, I prefer the Hennepin. Dorwart (1814), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 10, 2002 Excellent brew. Nice frothy head from the pour. Sweet fruity aroma initially. Slight taste of alcohol and warms as it goes down. Slightly bitter finish which is nice. Nice dark ruby color with a little sediment. Great belgian from the USA. A top quality beer and one that should be thoroughly enjoyed. Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 6, 2003 Soooper dry, nice yeast, nicely spicy (pepper), great plum and raisin and port wine. Quite effervescent. A fine, fine brune - I can't believe I waited this long to find this! Detractions are as others have noted; some astringency and sourness, but my bottle may be old - besides I like the spritz.
