Yet another bottle that Sim purchased in the states. Gouden Carolus type aroma. Sweet, fruity and alcoholic. Glorious appearance. Flavour is just like the nose. Reasonably complex and well balanced. Very spritzy palate. Bitter finish that doesn’t quite live up to the rest but damn good stuff overall. thewolf (5808), Kolding, Denmark

[thank you, drmatt]
Pours deep red with a giant frothy/creamy beige-brown head. Aroma has loads of caramel and dried, ripe fruits. Some light yeasty tartness with toffee and dry grassy hops. Lovely creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is wonderful, light tart, very dry, some plums and toffee. Really nice brew. bu11zeye (5621), Frisco, Texas, USA

Allagash was a smoother, creamier drink. Good flavor as it went across the palate, but didn’t care for the finish/aftertaste. Rastacouere (5561), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 29, 2004 Deep brown hue with red reflects. Honest light brown head. Malty and yeasty nose rich of fruity overtones (prune, apples) and chocolatey. Initial sweet attack which is not unbalanced thanks to a long yeasty dry finish. Alcohol noticeable, but undistracting. Round medium body with very high carbonation, although not as much as rare vos luckily. Pretty good, but I’ve yet to be truly impressed by a dubbel and I must say that Ommegang has never impressed me all that much besides Three Philosophers. hopscotch (5522), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

The commercial description is sufficient. I won’t repeat it. If you like Belgian beer, you’ll enjoy this hearty brew. It’s not Westy Extra 8, but it’s damn good. Hey, next time you’re at the Baseball Hall of Fame, stop by the brewery have ’em draw one for you.
