Slight taste of alcohol and warms as it goes down. Slightly bitter finish which is nice. Nice dark ruby color with a little sediment. Great belgian from the USA. A top quality beer and one that should be thoroughly enjoyed. rederic (1815), montréal, Quebec, Canada

Well retained, medium-sized head. Cherry and bread notes. Full with spicy cherry/vanilla and fig flavors. A dry, lingering hay finish. "Burgundian" is a very good descriptor. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 6, 2003 Soooper dry, nice yeast, nicely spicy (pepper), great plum and raisin and port wine. Quite effervescent. A fine, fine brune - I can't believe I waited this long to find this! Detractions are as others have noted; some astringency and sourness, but my bottle may be old - besides I like the spritz. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA

Nose is awesome-like warm bannana pudding and malt. The taste is very chewy-some prune, soy sauce, malt, black licorice, and malt. The finish is thick and leaves an aftertaste that lingers a long time. I really like this. This would be a good beer to drink all day. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 9, 2004 Beautiful deep burdundy with a moderate tan head. Appealing aroma of fruit and spice and candy. Medium body with a slight fizz. However, to me, the flavor was unpleasant. Too astringent. JCB (1799), Durham, North Carolina, USA

My recollection is of a more caramel-heavy, darker Belgian strong. And while this brew certainly has those qualities to some degree, it’s given a distinctive character - and balance! - by this complex fruit character, with a bit of McIntosh apple, a smidge of toffee, a hint of tangerine even, and finishing with a warm malty feel. Very nice, and just a bit out of the ordinary. Palidor19 (1798), Brandon, Florida, USA
