Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Bottle with da boys. Thanks to BBB63. Pours a clearish brown with a beige head. Smells ever-so-slightly funghi. Sweet with aromas of candi-sugar, raisins and prunes. Hints of cheese. Dry finish. Medium carbonation. Medium body. Sugary finish with more aromas of raisins.

750 ml bottle poured into a Duvel glass. Dark cherry red with a tan head. Plenty of lace. Load of dark fruit aroma. Bit O Honey, and Reisin candies. Flavors of raisins and licorice cover the entire tongue. Fairly soft palate with some tingly carbonation. Really pretty damn good.

Damn if this isn’t a lot fruitier than I remember. My recollection is of a more caramel-heavy, darker Belgian strong. And while this brew certainly has those qualities to some degree, it’s given a distinctive character - and balance! - by this complex fruit character, with a bit of McIntosh apple, a smidge of toffee, a hint of tangerine even, and finishing with a warm malty feel. Very nice, and just a bit out of the ordinary.

Initially, the aroma was amazing, blossoming with fruit and honey. Poured with no head which was weird. Could have had a more compelx taste. The bottle I had was young. I would like to try an older one (with more developed malts?).

Dark brown-red with a thin light tan cover. Aroma is big fruity malts, spice and banana, yeast notes, prunes, raisins, cherries. Creamy feel, bit of thinning alcohol. Taste is more fleshy fruits, dates, raisins, plums, cherries, some toffee, maltiness, and a light yeast spice.

Color is more brownish with hints of burgundy with a huge, tan head. Nice blend of spices, a bit of apple, chocolate, and toffee. Finish is truly dry and balanced.
