Very smooth flavor with a fruity palate that is not dominated by the crisp flavor. Good abbey strong that would improve in 1-2 years of cellaring. !
Update The nose is just beautiful. Plum, raisin, and berry pastry dance creating a delightful aroma. Sweet taste, notes of honey, plum, dried fruit and berry. An absolute treasure of a beer. Sparky27 (1620), Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Pours a nice burgundy with a huge dense 3 finger tan head that stuck around the entire glass and leaves nice lacing. The nose is caramel malt, dark fruit, light spice and faint metallic. The taste is spicy yeast, plums, raisins and faint chocolate with a hint of alcohol in the finish. Medium creamy mouthfeel. Good Dubbel. jerohen (1615), Bussum, Netherlands
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 4, 2007 Ginger Man, NYC. Hazy ruby brown coloured, brown head. Malty, nuts, brown sugar and warming alcohol. Tastes like a good Belgian Strong, although the mouthfeel is not as great. Might age very well i think. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 19, 2007 Pours a murky, unfiltered, layered black cherry burgundy. Yellowish-off-white head with nice lacing and a gentle carbonation stemming from the center of my consendonk tulip. Nose is full with dark fruits- especially cherries, belgian yeast, and candied and brown sugars. Flavor begins sweet and fruity with more cherries and a little raisin, prune, and plum. Finishes more earthy and clean with a smooth cocoa bitterness and a bit of (pleasant) cough syrup. beastiefan2k (1606), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA

Taste of this full bodied brew comes across with a taste of the same with a bit of sourness and sweetness. A great tasting brew. TheBeerOrg (1589), Kentucky, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 21, 2006 From a 750 ml. caged corked brown bottle with a blurb along the left side of the front label and serving instructions on the right side, no bottling date I could find, sampled at cellar temperature in a Ommegang chalice.
Poured a elegant ruby hued brown with a foamy tan head that settled into a thin sudsy lacing, very minor amount of sticking.
Aromas of honey and caramel malts, fruity and spicy, with a touch of licorice.
Good carbonation and a crisp, dry, velvety smooth lightish medium bodied mouthfeel.
Delicious tasting and malty at first, caramelized sugar, honey with a light toffee, earthy spices, dark tropical fruits, a nice chocolate licorice flavor, the alcohol is well masked and provides a smooth warm in the palate, and a dry yeasty and malty finish with a flavorful licorice lingering in the palate.
This is a really nice Belgian dark ale, tasty and balanced, well worth trying.
