Sweet, malty, very fruity, and suitably complex, this brew hits the spot on a cold night. Bov (5514), Bienne, Switzerland

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jun 14, 2003 Thanks to Linc again for this one. To quote motelpogo, the aroma was of whiteboard markers. There was also a bit of fuel, raw alcohol and caramel in the aroma. The palate, is caramelly, and candied, with some raw alcohol in the finish, a bit rough and short. It didn't really taste Belgian to me either, not bad. JorisPPattyn (5192), Antwerpen, Belgium
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 12, 2004 (Cave-aged 2001 version) Dark red beer; little white head. Enormous oxidation jumps out in the nose, 'biscuit', but way over the top as in the discards of pastry-making. Taste is completely madeirised - in 2 years? After the Hennepin, that clinches it: Ommegang beers are just too light to age gracefully. They just oxidate. Slick, medium bodied mouthfeel. One disappointment more from Ommegang. They ought to raise their price - AND their quality.

OK!! Soaring pepper in thick fruit syrup and rich brandy…Abundant chocolate and caramel notes…Formidable fortress of well-being…
