Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Love getting around to beers I’ve had quite a few times but not gotten my lazy ass to rate. Light brown w/ large head. Aroma of dark fruit and belgian yeast. Textbook taste for a dubbel. Dark fruit, light caramel sweetness and sharp belgian yeast with a slightly dry and lighly bitter finish. Love it. One of the best values around for a 750ml. Fantastic and versatile beer for pairing with food.

copper color, big light tan head, not much lace. sweet malt aroma, with chocolate, caramel and dried fruit notes. flavor is spicy, caramely, chocolatey, peppery. medium body, smooth finish. a touch too sweet for me. single bottle purchsed from liquor depot, monne.

Pours brown with ruby highlights, with a light tan head that leaves a full parallel lacing on the glass. One of the most attractive belgians I’ve ever seen. Nose is vinous grapes, spices, and butterscotch. Flavor is excellent, smooth and sweet. Sweet dry grapes and butterscotch candy. The finish is dry enough to remind you you’re drinking a world-class beer, rather then a belgian milkshake. Alcohol? What alcohol? Creamy palate. This beer is easily on par with the top true belgians. I found it even better crafted than the highly-respected Chimay Bleu. A true gem, and an incredible value. I can’t wait to try the cave-aged bottle in my cellar.

Very beautiful pour...huge head that seemed to last forever. I’ve had seasonal allergy attacks, so who knows about the aroma...but it tasted nice. Fruity but not overly so...not quite as refreshing (a bit heavier tasting) as the Hennepin, but still very nice.

(750 ml bottle, cellared for 11 mos. after purchase) Malty and winey and good...Pours a clear dark brownish red color with two fingers of pillowy biege head that recedes to about 1/8" and stays. Nice looking beer and surprised how un-cloudy it is. Rich nose of malt, brown sugar, wine, yeast and fruit. Mouthfeel shows lots of soft bottle conditioning carbonation, feels light but full and has a bit of stickiness at the end. Nice sheets of lacing on the goblet. Flavor is fairly rich brown sugary malt and wine-like (red I suppose) notes, some yeast and sometimes banana in finish. I think cellaring enriched this beer. Nice. Label says this is an abbey dubbel.

750 ml corked bottle. Dark, orange amber colour with a diminishing frothy tan head. Toffee, yeasty, sugary, and molasses aroma. Yeasty, toffee, and chocolate flavours with a slight sourness. Strangely thin but chewy mouthfeel.

Pours a dark reddish-brown color with a big fizzy tan head and good lacing. Sweet aroma of dark cherries, yeast, and spicy maltiness. Flavor is similar, sweet with dark fruits and malt. Nice dry finish. This is a very solid brew, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as some of the other Belgian Ales I have sampled.

Pours a deep ruby color with a big creamy light tan head. The tiny bubbles just keep rising up from the bottom of the glass, I could look at this all day. Initially, aroma is mainly apples that is taken over by alcohol and a hint of fresh leather. Taste of alcohol and yeast with alcohol becoming the dominant flavor as it warms. Dry finish. I will have forgotten this beer by the time I drink my next one.
