Prominent vinous nose of plums, malt, rye bread and licorice. Notes of chocolate, raisens, caramel and lights you right up too. Lingering finish that dances on the tongue. Daddy wuvs you, Abbey Ale. A very nice beer with lasting flavor. Pours very smoothly and has a taste that lasts, in a good way. Drink4Satan (586), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA

Smells of malt, dark fruits, and toffee. The mouthfeel is extremely rich and smooth with an active fizzyness. The finish is long and ends dry. I can chew on this a glass for while. Caramel sweetness and fruits are overwhelming. Cherries, plum, and other fruits I can’t identify. This stuff is better than a lot of belgian abbeys. grandet (486), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA

Huge tan head tops this reddish brown ale. Nutty caramel flavors mingle with dates, black currants, and dark fruits with a spicy finish. Complex malt flavor bittered just enough for balance. Clean sweet finish and full mouth feel. Wonderful beer, a flavor explosion, addictive, nothing bad to say here! zappafan99 (462), South Carolina, USA

It’s like the cheeze and cracker together. Well done. Nice Smooth aftertaste. Not bitter and not too sweet.. Smooth ...I’m enjoying this experience...writing as I drink... hmmm...nutty and even..It’s like dark chocolate. Not too sweet ,not too nutty...all the tastes are in the right place. Ommegang’s (1 pt. 9.4 oz. bottle) pour is beautiful, a deep, dark, ruby-tinted brown with a lasting cream-colored head. And, the taste ain’t no slouch either. Immediately after the pour, I smelled some dark fruits, or raisin, which later developed into a fuller sensation with strawberry or raspberry. The taste which followed the sniff was obviously fruity, with some sweets and some sours, and underscored by a decent balance of roast and bitter. The finish is a little bitter (and you definitely know you’re getting the 8.5% alcohol), and it really seems somewhere between grape juice and wine. Ommegang is definitely one of my faves.
