Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

A most satisfying brew for my 100th. Why do I like the raisiny flavor here when I hate raisins?

A standout Belgian ale (brewed in New York!) The yeast qualities are highly variable from bottle to bottle... I’m practically guessing but the greater yeastyness that I L0VE is more favourable in warmer in warmer months. Belgians are indeed a difficult style, Ommegang has done well in replicating the Old World taste here in the New World. They rank right up there with Unibroue.

Nice banana aroma with a thick creamy head that just took over the thistle glass. Wonderful amber colour and a very fruit like (banana?) taste. Smooth yet assertive mouthfeel. I thought this was a wonderful American interpritation of a belgian strong ale, yet at the same time I think this is it’s flaw.

Over the past week I’ve been getting my hands all over some sweet West Coast girls (and loving every hoppy drop) but I thought I’d better return to my true love, Belgians. But this affair has a twist, she’s American. And WOW, talk about a beauty, she’s a dark beauty (don’t start singing "Night moves") with cinnamon hues and a tan colored mane. She’s full bodied, sweet and rich. Just the way I like ’em. She has prunes and brandy on her breath and though she’s chewing some sort of spicy herbal gum, I can tell she’s been drinking a bit, I do catch a whiff of alcohol. When she wetted my lips for the first time and as my tounge swirled in her flavor I appreciated her complexity and refined tastes. I confessed my brief flings with those West Coast hoppy girls, and she has forgiven me. Though we just met, I’m in love. Happy Valentines Day!

(1st rating)...Must have gotten a bad bottle…Common caramel and brown sugar note…A lot of fruit : bananas, apples, cherries, prunes, grapes…Champagne-like dryness…Very promising but everything is dying…Will have to try again…(2nd rating)...This is what you’re talking about! OK!! Soaring pepper in thick fruit syrup and rich brandy…Abundant chocolate and caramel notes…Formidable fortress of well-being…

Bottled. Tasting @ Kolding Bryglaug. Lovely, very fruity aroma with dark fruits, toffee ,alts, plums. Hazy, dark red coloured with a beige head. Taste is sweet, has toffee maltiness, rye, plums and yeast. Quite complex Dry finish. Really nice.

The scent of butterscotch the taste of congnac. Deep amber color with dissapating head yet nice lacing. Warming leads to honey overtones. Very nice all around night cap on a cold winters day; truly inspires relaxation.
