Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Thick head, dark beer, very sweet smell or dark chocolate and Cherries. This was given to me from a friend for New Years 2007/2008. Taste is Caramel and dark chocolate. Alcohol is present but not in a bad way. My Wife hated it which automatically makes it a good tasting beer. Delicious!

Aroma of sweet malt, grape, raisin, plum, slight alcohol. Appearance, pours a large, frothy head that is light brown in color, good amount of head is lasting, clear body, amber hue. Initial fruit flavor, finish of slight alcohol, dryness, average duration. Creamy texture, medium bodied, average carbonation. You can’t beat a bottle of this for $5.00!

THOUGHTS: Had this a few time, but forgot I never rated it. This small bottle of it didn’t seem as good as the big bottles I’ve had in the past, but It was still pretty good, so I don’t think it was skunked but something was off. TECHNICAL: Small bottle. Poured a medium, reddish brown with a small, off-white head that mostly diminished but left fair lacing. The aroma was moderate to heavy caramel malt with red wine, brown sugar, spices and slight fruitiness from dark fruit and maybe just a note of skunk that usually isn’t there. The initial flavor was moderately to heavily sweet and sour, while the finish was havily sweet, lightly acidic and bitter and sour with and average duration. The flavor was caramel malt and some fruitiness (apple and cherry) and a little spiciness with some honey and even a little coffee and cola. The medium body was syrupy with fizzy carbonation.

12 ounce bottle in Duvel glass. Deep dark red color with dense lasting beige head and lace. Earthy, fruity cherryish aroma with yeast and slight alcohol. Fruity ripe cherry/rasin flavor with slight tobacco bitterness and slight tart finish. Medium-full bodied medium carbonation. Absolutely excellent.

This beer poured a nice reddish color with a mild head to it. There was a ncie smell of earth and hops. as you drink it you could taste some earthy flavors with hints of cherry and peat. There was a very nice cherry after taste that stuck around for a while in the back of your mouth.

Great richness and carbonation with berry-like flavor. Good tartness and acidity which are married with the creamy nutty flavors, making this a very good Belgian. It was better than I remembered it when I tasted it a year ago and an economical choice too. Great color.

Belgian style with lots of great caramel, licorice, chocolate, dark fruit and chicory flavors. It has a strong carbonation but with a smooth palate. Out of the bottle the aroma is very strong. The aroma becomes richer and full bodied once the chill is off the bottle. The head was off-white and medium in color. The flavor is just as delicious as the aroma. Finishes with a nice alcohol bitterness and lingers on your tongue. This is an excellent beer.
