Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

One of my first Belgian ales -- a great fruity taste with a merlot-like texture. Great beer to warm up to and relax -- excellent!

Get out two glasses for this one and make sure you get some of the yeast on the bottom of the bottle in both of them, it adds a lot to the beer. Reminds me of red wine.

Great color and fruit (raisin, banana) aroma. Tasted of raisins, bananas, and a slight hint of caramel. Quite nice.

(Re-rate)Deep ruby/burgundy. Decent tan head and lace. Punchy fruit aromas, hint of banana, honey, yeast hits, alcohol sneaks in a little as it warms. Just a very aroma filled brew. Almost thick bodied, rich as hell. Lots going on here and its strange because it a very laid back brew at the sametime. Flavors of anise, yeast, port, plummy fruit but its all melded together tightly. Finished quite dry wear I get cocoa powder flavors...interesting. Great beer and a fun one to try and figure out.

This is excellent, when taken in context. Somewhere between a wine and a beer. :) Its a bit too fruity and sweet for my tastes, but still really good.

Dark chesnut body, with a long lasting head.Good carbonation due to bottle conditioning. Notes of raisins, apricots and dried fruit in the aroma.Initial taste is rich and full of complex fruitiness. Warm alcohol sensations stimulate the tongue in the finish. Very flavorful with lots of character.

Brown color with a massive head, and a yeasty aroma that smells like fudge in the oven. Big and breadlike with toasty chocolate flavors, plums and a touch of saltiness. Warm and plenty sweet but not overpoweringly so. The finish was smooth and dry, and I didn't really notice the alcohol all that much. Has the most "imported" character to it of any American beer I've sampled to date. Outstanding!
