I wish that I was better at identifying these flavors (maybe cookie dough?) but something about the nose and my first impressions really reminded me of Rochefort 10, albeit with less oomph. Not quite hall-of-fame caliber (sorry, couldn’t resist), but a terrific pseudo-trappist, especially considering the price. Incredibly, they carry this in many supermarkets here in western New York. austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 24, 2002 Drinkable and almost as smooth as the Golden Monkey. I liked this one a lot. A hearty copper color followed by a taste of a gentle, astringent Belgian ale. gws57 (1138), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA

Cloudy, dark amber color with a thick tan head. Very complex nose; hints of citrus and other fruits, pumpkin and melon. Tastes equivalently complex, starts quite cidery and tart, quite hoppy but balanced bitterness, and finishes with bitter chocolate. Alcoholic in the finish. Outstanding. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 26, 2003 Really a fabulous beer. The aroma is flat out hard to beat: vanilla, raisins, dates, and hazelnuts. Alcohol is present in just the right warming amount. Delicate yet robust hoppiness. A real winner. Really a great value at $4.25 for a 750 mL bottle. mpbro (132), Stanford, California, USA

Very nice beer; surprising to see it from a US craft brewer. Was unable to take detailed notes. Sizeable, active, persistent head. Alcohol, plums, vanilla, and the usual suspects on the uptake. Sweet, but adequately bittered. Yeasty banana finish. Perhaps lacking a wee bit in complexity relative to the best. Still, easily in my current top 10.
