Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

keith-I must go against most people and say I am not a fan of this one. It looked fine and the aroma was nice as well but the taste was odd. Maybe I had an odd bottle, but this one tasted too yeasty that hits the throat poorly. I will try another bottle and see if its any better. rating 2.5 Eric-rerate-The bottle Keith got must have been bad/poorly stored or something. What i got here was a classic belgian strong ale (leaning towards a quad in some cases). pours a murky brown with a smooth tan head that lasted the entire time the beer was out. Funky aroma of brett, brown sugar, berries, and dark fruits. Lots of flavors going on here-brett, brown sugar, other spices, roast, belgian yeast-very complex. This beer has the complexity of a quad but the body of a dubbel. Keith, WTF!? This beer is truely amazing since its available just about anywhere in the country.

Rusty orange, thin light tan fizzy head. Good complexities in the nose with notes of golden raisin, plum, and musty caramel, with lighter notes of chocolate, cherry and spruce. Rich flavors up front with rum raisin, plum, and caramel leading the way. Balance comes around nicely late with a decent bittering hop addition. Full bodied, moderate carbonation, fruity, bittersweet finish. A top notch American style abbey ale. A great price point on their brews certainly doesn’t hurt either...

Raisins and rum, port. Gorgeous, classy, rich. Velvet and orchids, oysters and natural pearls. Old money wealth of taste.

Nose of caramel, tates like caramel. Sweet tasting with a slightly bitter finish. Doesn’t really taste like any of the belgian strong ales I’ve had, but a good beer none the less.

Nice head retention & lacing of beige/tan head w/ murky chestnut brown body. Dark fruit(plum), toasty malt sweetness and clove yeast. Some brown sugar notes as well. No hop presence in the aroma. Flavor is fairly dry, but finishes on a bit of a sweet malty side. Light hop flavor in the finish and a little bit of chocolate and malt sweetness mid sip. Plum fruitiness is farirly evident. Toasty and bready malts intermingle w/ plum fruitiness along with spicy clove and peppery yeast. Finish is a bit semi sweet w/a lasting fruity aftertaste. Fairly dry mouthfeel with a lighter body. I’m slightly disappointed with the body, but it’s minor flaw IMHO; Carbonation is moderatly high and has a great warming alcohol mouthfeel; A really good beer!!! I mean a really, really good beer, especially for the price!!!

Dark amber color with a medium brown long-lasting head; nice aroma of yeast; very complex taste, heavy on malt and with a pronounced but pleasant taste of alcohol; slightly bitter finish; can almost compete with some of the better Belgians I've tried
