I’ma big fan of this guy. Who knew Yankees could make Belgian better than most Belgians, and at less cost? BeerDude78 (87), Denville, New Jersey, USA

It’s not as rich as Duvel, which may give it an edge. It has the same caramel and toffee notes, which slam your tastebuds with ecstatic delights. An ale among ales, this one should be drunk slowly and enjoyed. Looks beautiful, smells wonderful, tastes rich and lovely...
I always keep an eye out for this one. Hazmatt (363), Virginia, USA

The caramel, the toffee, the chocolate, and the fruity taste are all well represented as soon as you take a swig. It’s an awesome ale! RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 11, 2007 Pours a very deep brownish red with a tan head. Quite a bit of lacing on the way down. Nose is extremely sweet with tones of old cherry skins. Flavor is smooth, rich, and deep. Robust malted flavors with a slight cherry tone to it. Caramel tones present as well. Feel is excellent. Perfect combination of bubble and rich, thick flavor coating your tongue. Extremely drinkable. A heavy hitter, but so rounded that you can’t help but keep going and going and going. Awesome offering from Ommegang. A Belgian styled jewel right out of America. yesyouam (611), Fairport, New York, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 21, 2007 Ommegang... Oh, what a head. A huge, melted styrofoam, creamy head. The beer itself is the darkest shade of magenta I could imagine. Dark, but not obscure in hue. It’s really turbulent and cloudy. It’s a candidate for ’best head ever’ along with Hennepin. Head and lacing are so tenacious. The aroma is of deep grain, alcohol, grass, hay, plum, black cough drops-- all soft. It’s dank, like a basement. It has a medium to heavy body. It’s soft and syrupy with an acidic flick at the end. It lingers. The flavor is like wood with tarragon, fig, plum, fennel, tamarind and brazil nuts. It’s very complex and very boozy with an aftertaste like scotch. It actually tastes stronger than 8.5% ABV. Great beer.
