Dark red with a huge fluffy white head that slowy vanished to a decent size. Aroma was mainly of apples, which I enjoy. Sweet fruits were the first thing I tasted, but that gave way to a dry, alcohol finish. Really a nice treat. UNCCTF (465), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA

I got a lot of toffee and chocolate in the flavor with a big hop kick that warms and dries as it goes down. Very good. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 5, 2004 Dark burgundy with a very short-lived fizzy tan head. The aroma is very sweet at first, caramel and chocolate, then some toffee. The flavor is a nice caramel and toffe combo. There is some dark fruit action going on also, plums maybe. The finish is dry and lively. The body is medium full. I really like this beer. I started drinking this stuff eons ago and have just now gotten around to rating it. I think that I enjoy it more now than I used to. Yum. BCAR (216), Naperville, Illinois, USA

Aroma is very sweet--dried cherries with yeast. Nice malt profile with anise elements. Finishes tart in the back of my throat. Seems like it would be even better cellared.
