Malty taste with quite a bit of fizz and dryness. Would definitely buy again. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Aroma is licorice, toffee, caramel and milk chocolate. Fizzy when it first hits the palate, but after letting it sit for about 15 minutes, the fizz subsided and the malts became superstars. Flavor is toffee and licorice, caramel, fresh bread, tobacco leaves, figs and plantains. Finish is tobacco and dry chocolate. This is liquid candy. DerWeg (783), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jun 24, 2009 Tasty fruity and slightly sticky with a bit of a good wine-like tart ale-fruit edge from the yeast, and a clever attenuation of hops that puts the dryness right under the fruity tartness and sweetness. Everything supports the taste profile. Quite a nice little trick! Smell apple raisin sweet grains and tart yeast. Taste raisin, apple, dry cocoa, caramel. Great finish with a bit of alcohol warmth. Really nice, possibly more subtle dry, nuanced and wine-like than similar Unibroue beers. allfreej (376), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Apr 6, 2008 Bottled. Poured clear, brown, with a foamy tan head, which left a decent amount of lace on the glass. Nose was raisins, molasses, plum, and brown bread. Flavor was very complex with hints of raisins, cherries, wood, candy sugar and alcohol and vinous tones. Mouthfeel was medium and nicely carbonated. A dry finish without being astringent with a warm alcohol undertone. Ughsmash (4098), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 20, 2005 750 mL. Poured a cloudy burgandy color with a well-retained 1/4" head. Beer was well-carbonated, and the flavor was composed of dark fruits and Belgian yeast. Some other spices were definitely present, and the mouthfeel was lively. pinkzambia (989), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 25, 2006 12 oz. Bottle: This is by far tied for first with Chimay Blue for my favorite Belgian strong ale! It is murky brown with a fizzy, creamy, stiff head which is maintained throughout the time of consumption. The head is off-white to tan and clings to the glass in big chunks like a fly to fly paper. It boasts a strong spicy aroma along with ripe bananas and vanilla. The taste was more delightfully interesting than the aroma. I noticed a strong cherry flavor along with alcohol, yeast, prunes and bicycle tire (similar to a fat tire, but skinnier!). The medium body is not too thick or too thin, just right. And it leaves a great taste lingering in your mouth beckoning you to try another. The only problem is, I only bought one! jcr (1192), Jasper, Indiana, USA

One tasty beer that keeps your buds hopping from one flavor to another - the malts, the raisins, the honey. Good balance of sweet and bitter. The 8.5% alcohol is nicely hidden. gatorbeer (148), Ft.
