Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

12 oz bottle purchased at the brewery. Poured a murky brown with a large off white frothy head. Aroma was complex with the standard yeastiness of a Belgian style but also had a ton of fruit including raisins, plums, prunes, banana tied in with a light maltiness. For some reason on my initial sip I got a mouthful of a metalic flavor but after that first sip it disappeared. Flavor was dark fruit, yeast and candy sugar. This beer was far better then I remembered it and was a nice suprise on a rainy day off from work.

Pours a dark red brown with a with a tan head. The head dies early. I get a hint of some spice and dark fruits in the taste. Full mouth full. Great beer overall

750 ml bottle. Cloudy dark amber color, a head that lasts forever, sweet with a wide variety of tastes and 8.5 ABV that will definitely do the trick. Superb.

[Bottle, January 2007] Nice light brown head atop this deep burgundy brew. Cherry and wood aroma. Flavor is cherry, smoked oak, and honey. Finish is nice and crisp. Delicious.

A very strong beer that pours with a nice head. This rich, dark red bodied beer has a nice fruit-like aroma and hints of chocolate and caramel on the palate. One of the few abbey style beers that I really enjoy drinking.

This beer has been one of my top 5 for the last 3 years now... It’s rich and chewy, with the slightest hint of cane sugar to finish off an amazing combination of licorice, dark chocolate, and orange rind. It’s an excellent beer for the holiday season, as well. LLLOVE IT!

750 mL bottle. Poured deep red/brown, much darker than I expected, with a nice white head. Aroma is sweet, filled with fruits and berries as well as some caramel. Flavor is sweet and malty, with fruity/nutty notes. It’s almost oily as it coats the tongue, but very smooth, finally ending in a nice alcoholic kick. A great brew.
