Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Poured a rusty brown with a generous and light tan head. The initial aroma was sour. Very sour. Almost as if the bottle could have been bad. We let it sit for a while and boy did it mellow out. Strong aroma of fruit with apples clearly dominant. Definite floral aroma and taste as well with a splash of chocolate or cocoa. Finishes well but does leave the fruit taste on the tongue. Not as good as I remember the first time I had it. Hope they haven't changed the recipe.

12 oz bottle from premier gourmet. pours hazy dark amber with a lovely tan head that is thick and luxurious throughout your drinking experience. the aroma is of dark fruit, pale malts and belgian yeast (loses one point for noticeable alcohol). caramelized rum soaked raisons. the flavours are similar but they are accompanied by a soft comforting mouthfeel that in my mind is perfect for a dubble. my bottle was fresh but a little age on this would make it almost impossible to beat. very good brew that i wish i could purchase regularily.

Bottle, 8.5%. Yeasty, slightly funky aroma. The flavour starts off very malty with some malt syrup, melassis. Ends on a citric note that lifts the beer a bit. Has a little cardboard to it, but it does not matter much.

On tap at Stone 12th, but I’ve tried this many times over the years. After learning about red beers, then Chimay red, I stumbled upon this and I like it better than Chimay Red. My standards are narrower now, but at one time this was one of my favorite beers. Tasting this after such a long delay, reminds me of why I liked it: Lots and lots of sweet long boil melanoidins and caramelization. I see this flavor also in many IPAs and a few English beers. I like it. Much better than Ommegedon yuckiness.

Bottle from Plano Beverage in Plano, TX. Pours an orange/red with beige head. Nice floral ,spicey, malty aroma aroma. Flavor is medium sweet, nice caramel, black licorice notes, spicy hops. Palate is medium mouth feel with champaign like qualities, carbonation wise. Over all, I enjoyed this.

Another solid brew from Ommegang! Pours a deep amber color with off-white head. Sweet, dark fruit aroma with candy yeast notes, Complex taste of fruit and candy. Sweet finish, that lingers for a while.
