Aroma of sweet malt, some dark fruits, maybe raisins, and a little spice. Flavor is much like the aroma, complex, adding complexity as it warms. Great example of this style.

yeasts, full pear and a bit of bread. Incredibly fruity. Pours a
brilliant clear deep ruby red, with a plenty of ochre-tinted head, rocky
and lacing long. Boozy, sharp malt flavor up front. A twinging metallic
pilsner malt base, yields some strong alcohols and a bit of lime juice.
Odd. Prickly. The flavor profile isn’t particularly wonderful. A sharp,
biting metallic flavor, with overly strong, unbalanced alcohols. Ends a
bit thin. Less than mediocre in my book.

Aroma is fruity with a hint of hops, appearance is a very dark red/burgundy with a thin head. Malty taste with hints of apricot and chocolate. Rather decadent and enjoyable. puboflyons (622), New Hampshire, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 23, 2009 From the 1 pt. 9.4 fl. oz. bottle. The pour is a distinguished looking burgundy-brown with a hefty supply of foamy tan head. The aroma is vibrant with wheat, yeast, and caramel malts and subtle with the alcohol. The mouthfeel is of good texture and stability. The taste is pleasingly pungent with sweetness and licorice and a nice hoppy finale. Ommegang does it right. 13mikey (171), New Hope, Minnesota, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 19, 2009 Bottle form crown#6. Has the appearance of a sesame marinade with the bits and pieces flowing about, and yes, I was sure to not pour the last bit in, nor rock the bottle. Color is bland brown. Nose is sweet caramel, brown sugar and toffee. Flavor is sharp, crisp, dark fruit, caramel, nutty, toffee, slight bitter chocolate and black licorice with a dominant carbonation feel. Very complex, nice brew. A little dry and dirty tasting at times. gringo332 (246), Richardson, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 18, 2009 Aroma is faint plum and toffee notes. Appearance is a deep red, almost like a port. Taste is a sweet fruitiness I can not place. Toffee come through more as it warms. Palate is dry and carbonated like many of the Ommegangs. Great beer on the whole. Jow (26), New York, USA
