No lace at all. The aroma had some sweet dark malt at the bottom, but was over-spiced to a medicinal state, smelling like Smith Brothers black cough drops and pine needles. The smooth mouthfeel tempered the strong spices into a blending of licorice, candied dark fruit, and bitter spices. Interesting, but not something that I’d drink again soon.

Intense nose of musty spice as the cork is pulled. This isn’t absolutely bad but...... Pours a lovely translucent ruby with some brown tones in center. A hefty head that settles rapidly to a quarter inch. First and second tastes are almost all spice.....Bert you were right again! (actually translated as"Damn Ceciltuckian") The spice was followed by spice and the finish was slowly descending spice. I felt like I was back in the seaport inspecting.....you guessed it....spice. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 29, 2009 750ml bottle. Rating #76. Murky, dark brown with a touch of orange, the head was light tan and clung to the glass for only a moment. Sweet spice aroma, coriander and orange peels. Flavor is a little boozy, more spicy sweetness and a little thin, but smooth as well. Not bad, but not my thing. (1090) hopdog (5561), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

Pours a dark, ruby-brown with puffy off-white head. Aroma of spices with notes of sweet malts. Flavor is a rich complexity of sweet, dark fruits and spiciness, along with a thick, sugary palatte. Body is almost syrupy. Finish is sweet and mildly warming. Overall quite delicious. 17thfloor (1479), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 28, 2009 6 very sweet smelling, heavily spiced, lots of cardamon upfront, overwhelming, some of the orange peel shines thru, rich maltiness underneath
4 pours a clear but dark chestnut , visoucs sugary, color with a nice fine fizzy white froth
7 flavor is sweet and spicy, light urinal cake, again loaded with caramon, finishing medicianlly sweet with orange peel, richly sweet, hides the 10% exceptionally well
3/4 medium bodied, syrupy but not sticky visoucs, light sizzling carbonation.
\well brewed but not particularily good FunkyBrewster (464), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 28, 2009 Thanks 17thfloor! Pours a dark brown with a red tint and a small off white froth. Aroma is insanely spicy and sugary, way too much. I appreciate a nice holiday ale with spices, but this amount of vanilla and cardamom and what have you is overwhelming. Seems like it should be glazed over a ham. Flavor is a bit better, the spices are at least being attempted at balance with some dark fruits and chocolate and vanilla. Still overwhelming but a bit better. FInishes with some citric and cardamom fading away. Medium body and a sharp carbonation. I feel like holiday beers need to be very careful about spices and not make a mess of them. boamr (136), Pennsylvania, USA
