Commercial Description:
Ommegang Biere de Mars is a fine Belgian-style amber ale with a bit of magical space dust woven in: Brettanomyces Bruxellensis, a wild yeast which imparts added tartness, extra zing, and a touch of funk - while dry hopping enhances the hop aroma.

Batch 2 from October 2008 sampled in May of 2009. Pow! Very forceful exit of the cork. Hazy light copper body with a large and long lasting light khaki head. Sweet leather and pears in the nose. There is a little bit of brett funk, but it is light. The taste is fairly dry wood and brett funk with some pears. There is also a little bit of cinnamon and black pepper spice. The body is chewy and pleasant with soft carbonation. Nicely done.

pours a cloudy orange with a large egg-shell head, large sediment in the end, and some lacing. smell is of spice, pear, peach, and yeast. taste is of fizzy carbonation, sweat and sour fruits, malt, spice, and wheat, end is a little dry, and a little bitter.

bottle with loads of visible sediment. Gentle pour yields a clear, beautiful ruby amber color. 2" thick foamy head, active carbonation keeps head lasting. Aromas of smooth, mellow sugar cookie sweetness, bright sweet floral notes, light spice, and hints of a musty tartness. Flavor is impressive... light, dry funky tartness over smooth candi sugar sweetness. Spicy hop bite. Some apples and light tobacco notes. Superbly balanced across all the flavors. Palate becomes the only stumbling block... excessive carbonation combines with light body to make a bit of an abrasive mouthfeel. Overall a superb brew with really only one fault.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of malt and fruit, and so is the flavor, leading to a dry and bitter finish.

batch #1 from dickinsonbeer... pours a hazy pale coppery/brownish amber with a short lived white head. the nose is notably peachy and has a defined floral character... peach blossoms and roses... for sure. also, it has a bunch of warming spices... especially cinnamon, clove and nutmeg along with dusty woody hops and mineral-y-cement-y brett hanging around in the background. the flavor is surprisingly grainy and malty with notes of peaches, bubblegum, a light funkiness/minerality and lots of twiggy bitter dryness on the spice filled finish. a pleasant acidity weaves its way through which lends to an incredible drinkability. it has a texture to it which reminds me of banana starch... the mouth feel is light and airy when first poured but thins as it sits and loses some punch from lacking bubbles...8/4/8/3/16/3.9
