Commercial Description:
Ommegang Biere de Mars is a fine Belgian-style amber ale with a bit of magical space dust woven in: Brettanomyces Bruxellensis, a wild yeast which imparts added tartness, extra zing, and a touch of funk - while dry hopping enhances the hop aroma.

bottle corked and caged poured a yellow amber color with a frothy two finger off white head that retained rather well. aroma has belgian yeast, nutmeg, light floral hops, faint fruit, and some hay. mouth feel is light with crisp carbonation. flavor has a little more funk. hay, brett, lightly spiced, interesting hops, and some fruit. light and refreshing but lots of layered flavors. finishes with bitter tartness and some tasty yeast.

Pours very effervescent, very hazy, orangey-copper in color with notable sediment and a head which is very full, just off-white, creamy, and fluffy; head continues to grow after the pour, but as the violent carbonation begins to settle, the head becomes rocky and pillowy with a small, mostly lasting layer and leaves minimal lace. Nose is hoppier than most Biere de Mars I’ve tried; notes of funky and dusty yeast, hops are spicy and highly floral, cinnamon, very mild hints at other spices (clove, nutmeg), light brett notes of barnyard and straw, lemon zest, and hints at overripe peaches. Flavor is a bit saison-ish with the hops, tartness, and funk; a malt base is far in the background with caramel and sweet biscuits, tartness is more prominent with lemons and lemon zest and hints at the same overripe peach notes, yeast is still dusty with some light bretty barnyard notes, and the hops are moderate and moderately bitter with notes of floral and light spice. Palate is medium, lightly dry, lively, and somewhat sticky. Finishes somewhat quickly with some spice and bitterness; notes of faint cinnamon and spice, floral, and some lingering tartness from the lemon notes. I actually liked this one the more of the beer I tried. The saison notes were obvious but the subtle baking spices and malt background reminded me of the Biere de Mars I have tried. Slightly tart, nice dry-hopping addition, and moderate brett notes really help this complex beer. It was worth the wait for Ommegang to to ship this one to Colorado.

Pours a nice amber color with lots of carbonation. Very light tasting with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Various spices hit the taste buds possibly clove and cinnamon.

Pours a hazy golfen with nice head retention and quite a bit of sediment... Aroma is a bit funky, dominated by brett with a touch of tart apple, and a subtle hoppiness that wasnt as pungent as expected.. Taste is a touch funky with bread, yeast, lemon, apple and possibly pitted fruits... medium body, medium mouthfeel, a tad tart...

Coppery amber with a slight head. Aroma is dominated by brett - not sour at all, but funk and oakiness, mixed with a bit of toast, stone and drying bittering hops. Flavor is a dead on match. A nice brew, definitely an ode to brett.

750ml bottle-pours a foamy off white head that disappeared and gold/amber color. Aroma is a funky yeast, white grapes, grainy/bread, some spice/vinuous. Taste is very funky yeast, dry, dry, white grapes/vinuous, lemon-sour/tart. Cold is better, but not my taste. Thanks to Joe-jwc215 for sharing this.

I’m on the low end here. Turbid copper pour with 1-finger off-white head. Nose is spicy yeast, funk, fruit. Tastes spicy and yeasty up front, with sour fruit, hops, and floral dryness late. Medium palate heft that is very carbonated and stays dry throughout.
