| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 30, 2009 clear golden brown with large white head. high carbonation. nose of esters and sourness. flavor starts with some hop bitterness before some bret-induced funky sourness before some malt backbone and a touch of classic belgian fruity esters before a dry and crisp finish. a very subtle tasting brew, outside of the bret tartness, which has to be carefully examined to be appreciated. overall, an interesting, if not spectacular brew marcus (1885), Sacramento, California, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 26, 2009 750ml bottle from batch #2, shared with BeerGestapo. It poured a reddish amber topped by a big lasting head, lots of sediment floating around. Lots of Brett funk on the nose, smelled tart and slightly spicy. The flavor was bready malt with underlying funk, slightly metallic. The mouthfeel was smooth and fuzzy, medium body. Finished dry with some lingering spiciness. Good but I think I prefer Jolly Pumpkin’s "kissed by Brett" approach to doing funky beers.
