Commercial Description:
Ommegang Biere de Mars is a fine Belgian-style amber ale with a bit of magical space dust woven in: Brettanomyces Bruxellensis, a wild yeast which imparts added tartness, extra zing, and a touch of funk - while dry hopping enhances the hop aroma.

Bottle @ RBESG Grand Tasting 2009. Orange color. Tangerine and medecinal notes in the aroma. Thin to medium bodied. Tangerine and citrus in the flavor. Malty sweetish with a hint of tartness. Sticky mouthfeel.

Batch #2. 750ml corked bottle served in a Chimay chalice. Poured a reddish gold with a finger of white head. A bit of brett in the aroma along with some citrus and sugar. Light bodied, very refreshing. Dry with a spritzy mouthfeel. Lightly tart, could be a little more for my taste. Nothing substantial, but very drinkable. A training wheels Brett beer. Considering the price, I don’t think I would buy it again.

Pours a rich amber color with a bit of a reddish tone to it and pillowy white head. Aroma is very floral and perfumy. Notes of fruit, yeast funk, and light cherry. Taste is light cherry, brettanomyces, and light malt backbone. It’s lightly carbonated and has a dry crisp finish. This is another great beer from Ommegang.

RBESG Sheffield 2009 Grand Tasting at the Harlequin. Hazy orange colour, white head. Aroma of a light sourness, cloves, yeast, fruits. Flavour has the same qualities, a bit of toffee, light bitter finish. Medium bodied. Nice beer.

0.75l - Sour nose, toffee color, small, tan head. Nice malt backbone, yeast on palate. Good but a little underwhelming relative to Ommegang’s usual offerings.

Aroma is a mix between a Belgian Ale and a sour ale; plenty of tart fruit and lively yeast. Liquid is translucent reddish brown, unfiltered; head was tan and well carbonated. Tart apples, raisins, white grape and biscuit were all part of the flavor. Not as tart as the aroma suggested, but still very good. Palate was lively and continuously bubbly. Yum yum.

thumbs down. Big time. Ommegang seems very hit and miss with me. I thought this beer was too dry and a little sour. Very weak aroma and anemic color. This beer was a total disapointment. Maybe I got a poorly handled bottle
