Aroma was lots of chocolate and deep roasted malts. Flavor wasnt nearly as chocolatey as I had expected, more dry roastedness and coffee flavors, but thats not a bad thing, just not what its advertised as. Great stuff! doubleo (1121), San Diego, California, USA

Pours dark brown with a moderate offwhite head, spiderweb lace. Smells very dark and malty, black licorice with a hint of funky sweet dark chocolate. Tastes a bit funky sweet, weird sour dark chocolate flavor. Sour malts taste like black licorice. Where’s the chocolate? Full body, good carbonation. Sregnar35 (730), Rotterdam, New York, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Oct 17, 2008 Not great. Pours very dark wit a musty smell. Somewhat sweet, but also a bit watery, didn’t punch you with a good chocolate bite. This beer stands out as being different than other chocolate stouts, insofar as its alcohol content is low enough for the rich cocoa powder taste to take control of the finish. The head of the beer is thick to medium in its consistency and the head laces the glass in an inconsistently. The beer is thin-to-medium bodied and leaves a brief moment of sweetness before the cocoa powder comes out. There is a roasty espresso quality to the finish but it is certainly more of a bitter chocolate taste than a bitter coffee. It does not have the burnt tobacco notes that an espresso finish implies. Very Good. BigBang (213), Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 17, 2008 On tap. Very little head. Nice and sweet - chocolate as promised but not a lot else. Mouthfeel is a little thin. sleestak (191), Williamston, Michigan, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 17, 2008 Guest tap at FFF. Poured uber-dark brown with a bubbly cream head. Aroma dominated by - wait for it - chocolate, but nice roasted malt and a touch of spiciness as well. Flavor was huge cocoa with dark fruit undertones. Very dry bittersweet chocolate finish. Nicely bubbly and relatively light mouthfeel make it drinkable despite the overall richness of flavor. Good, but probably not worth the premium price. MAP (1089), Lakewood, Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 15, 2008 Pour gave a nice black body with a thick tan head. Aroma is a simple, a little roasted malt, cream and chocolate. Texture comes off as dry and slightly biter, but it matches well with a bitter chocolate taste. The beer is not overly chocolatey. It warms up to a little more chocolate flavor, but still is pretty balanced with the chocolate aspect and the stout aspect. danielcurtis81 (908), San Diego, California, USA
