| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Aug 13, 2008 Bottle from Oldsmar Tap House. It pours a dark brownish-black with a slight off-white/ tan head. It has a very big dark chocolate and a weaker, but very noticeable coffee presence, too. The cocoa is very noticeable with the slightly bitter finish. abcfan (247), New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 12, 2008 Very nice stout, pours black with a fluffy brown/tan head. Nice chocolate/coffee aroma in this one, with a hint of belgian style yeast. Nice cocoa and coffee taste, with a smooth slightly bitter finish. Would drink again. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 27, 2008 Thanks to Secret Santa (mcbackus) for this! Pours dark brown to black with a tan head of good size, lacing, and duration. Aroma is subtle but very nice; Dry cocoa powder, wood, crushed leaves, rye, and maybe just a hint of licorice. In the aroma, the chocolate is really nice. Tastes a bit more normal with a flavor of dark chocolate, very dry cocoa, unsweetened coffee, wood, toast, and a bit of caramel. Finishes lightly bitter with a pleasant coffee aftertaste, but the salty, cloying sensation on my throat isn’t pleasant at all. I don’t like it when a beer’s finish encourages so many sips of water. Mouthfeel was medium bodied, carbonation is fairly high, but not too much, and the beer is highly drinkable. Good enough, but with a tweaked flavor and finish, it could be awesome. timsilvia32 (447), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 19, 2008 Poured a dark brown. Fragrant cocoa, in the nose. A little bit of coffee, red fruit to complement the cocoa. More tartness than I care for. Really not bad, an enjoyable drink, but not worth the $16.
As a side note, Ratebeer needs to seperate Belgian stouts out from the others, they are very different. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 18, 2008 The aroma is sharp and smoky with light chocolate notes and stronger dark fruit notes. The body is black with a light mocha colored head that is pinky thin. Sharp, lightly acidic and chocolaty with coffee bitterness and acidity thrown in for good measure. Faintly metallic and tart with and ashy chalky finish. nuplastikk (1227), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 15, 2008 750ml corked bottle. "True" Belgian style Chocolate Stout. Cocoa Ale or something along those lines, would be a better fit in my opinion. Bellyaching aside, this is one of the finer "Cocoa Ales" I’ve had. Nice sweet chocolate aroma. Attractive opaque black appearance. Mellow carbonation. Chocolate syrup taste that comes off surprisingly well. The ABV is perfect for the style, the beer maintains a solid body while being very drinkable. Exceptional beer, recommended. BREWMUSKCLES (1087), New Jersey, USA
