I am a huge fan of chocolate beers and this is one of the best I have tasted. Had it on tap at Rattle and Hum in NYC during Craft Beer Week 2009. Poured pitch black with a strong beige, fluffy head that never subsided. Aroma of roasted malts and coffee. Taste: miraculous. Notes of chocolate on the front and back ends, along with strong coffee and mild caramel flavors. Velvety smooth and rich like pudding. This was a great beer. DarkBeer (47), Ohio, USA

Chocolate shows up in the nose along with roasty malts. Creamy, satiny mouthfeel. Complex series of flavor, with the chocolate notes kicking in at the back end of the swallow. An outstanding stout. | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jun 4, 2009 This smells predominantly like chocolate, slight hints of ale. It is a deep dark chocolate color with a maroon red small head. The flavor is a delicious chocolate, but not really sweet. The subtle sweetness comes from the delicious ale flavor. | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Dec 23, 2008 Aroma is fairly strong and smoky, mainly of roast coffee with hints of chocolate and a whisper of molasses. It pours an opaque sable like dark chocolate with a very thick, fine-bubbled tan head that hangs around for a while. Flavor is just simply superb, smoky and chocolaty with undertones of coffee, caramel and molasses. It is fairly sweet but not cloying, and there is a touch of hop bitterness that balances the sweetness nicely. Texture is smooth and bubbly, and it leaves a slightly sweet mocha aftertaste. Very festive, and a good dessert beer. GreatLibations (1447), Last Supper, Arizona, USA

Aromas of roasted coffee and chocolate. Medium nectar with ample carbonation. Good flavor concentration with a high roasted coffee and cocoa presence. The finish lingers with superb bittering.

| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Nov 30, 2007 Nose of spicy cherry cordials, chocolate brownies fresh from the oven, and all kinds of floral notes here as well. Pours black. The wicked cascade resolves into a towering, uber stiff & rocky tan head that is fully lasting and leaves excellent lace. Goes down waaaay too smooth. This is guinness to the 100th power. Holy shit! Flavor is sweet and roasted chocolate malt, mild alcohol warmth and sweetness as not to upset the masterful balance. Light acidity adds to the cornucopia of tasting pleasure. The chocolate in the finish is just as the label claims "indulgence". The full body is creamy and chewy, lively; and feels dry at the finish. Fuck this is good!! Should definitely be allowed to breathe and warm if you have the willpower. The mark of a great brew is the measure of how easily one could make themselves sick...for me with this one, it would be all too easy. Wa-we-woo-wah...very nice...I like...high five!! Hints of belgian sugars, light cocoa. So easy to drink and enjoyable. Not overly sweet at all, just perfectly balanced. I enjoyed every sip of this one. Truly wonderful.
