Commercial Description:
The TTB won’t let us call the beer Obamagang on the keg label. So it will be known legally as Inauguration Ale 2009, but the tap handles will be more...um...direct. The style lies between a porter and stout, with a bit of Kriek and a touch of chocolate blended in. It will be on draft only, beginning with the inauguration - in limited areas including DC, NYC, Syracuse, Philly, Chicago and Boston. We will donate a percentage of sales to charities in the respective cities where the beer is sold, and we’ve asked our distributors to match our donations and pick the local charities. (Also please note that the beer is not an endorsement of Obama.)

On tap at the Ommegang brewery. Pours dark brown (not completely black), with nice tan head. Very heavy chocolate aroma, and tastes sweet and chocolatey with a hint of coffee. Medium bodied, a touch on the lighter side for the style. It was introduced to me as a porter when I had it, but its likeness to a stout is also very apparent as noted in the commercial description. This is a great unique beer thats definitely worth a try.

On tap at Aroma Thyme. Very similar to the Chocolate. A faint fruit essence. Pretty good balanced flavor with coffee and chocolate and drinkable but not worth what they were charging. $7 for like 10oz. Crazy.

On draught at the Sugar Maple tavern in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a creamy beige head that quickly dissipates to a thin ring. Aroma of toasted dark malt, a hint of banana, cherries, dark chocolate, and a hint of coffee. Taste is full bodied, very complex with flavors of toasted dark malt, yeast, a hint of banana and some cherry. Finish is quite smooth and creamy with a semi-sweet chocolate and hint of cherry aftertaste.

Draft (The Bavarian Lodge-Lisle)-Pours a dark black with some ruby tints. Aroma of cherry, chocolate, and slight alcohol. Flavors of cherry, chocolate, roasted malt, and coffee. This full bodied stout was quite tasty and well balanced. Also appeared a little tangy.

I wanted to try this beer ever since I heard about it... but it just never happened. But I persevered, kept my eyes on the prize and exhausted all my available resources. I kept telling myself, Yes I Can. On tap at Sunset, semi-transparent black body that brown at the edges. Very floral and bouquet like nose with a little dust in the background. Stout? This drinks more like a dubbel with strong yeast and banana notes, some peat and light fruit. Finishes almost sour with dry bready flavor.

[1965-20090124] Tap. A little smoky beef and mild roasted cola in the aroma. Hazy, dark dark brown black body with a long-lasting creamy tan head and thick lacing. Banana roasted malt flavour has a generic fruit background and mildly bitter butter. Medium-full body. Good.

BEER WE CAN BELIEVE IN, ok that’s done. Good stout, taste could be a little more assertive? Good brew though i’d have again

Mini growler from Half-Time. Pours a dark chocolate brown with a large tanned brown head. Light roasted malt, bakers chocolate, and a little bit of hops on the nose. Chocolate, but not overpowering or super sweet. Hint of stone fruit, sweetness, and a little bit of alcohol. Finishes lightly with a little bit of bitterness and a touch more sweetness.
