Commercial Description:
The TTB won’t let us call the beer Obamagang on the keg label. So it will be known legally as Inauguration Ale 2009, but the tap handles will be more...um...direct. The style lies between a porter and stout, with a bit of Kriek and a touch of chocolate blended in. It will be on draft only, beginning with the inauguration - in limited areas including DC, NYC, Syracuse, Philly, Chicago and Boston. We will donate a percentage of sales to charities in the respective cities where the beer is sold, and we’ve asked our distributors to match our donations and pick the local charities. (Also please note that the beer is not an endorsement of Obama.)

Pours a dark brown with a bit of a tan head. Some roasted malt and a good bit of chocolate in the aroma. The flavor is pretty straight forward porter with a bit of cherry sweetness at the finish. Not bad but nothing spectacular.

Honestly, as a resident of DC and having been at our newest President’s historic inaugeration I was sorta pumped to try this. Pours a deep brown, nearly black with a slightly brown head. Aroma is slightly malty, but also some dark fruits and maybe a touch of coffee. Flavor is also malty, some chalky dark chocolate, some light caramel and a little bit of nuts. Flavor is only slightly thick but fairly clean.

Dark brown / black with a brown heaad. Taste is like a chocolate cherry cordial dissolved into a porter. Easy drinking with a light, sour, slightly cloying aftertaste. A success . $6/pint

Draft at Capone’s: Poured a dark brown/black with a nice tan head. The aroma was dark fruits, bitter chocolate and coffee. The flavor was strong coffee, caramel and roasted chocolate. Overall, another beer worth drinking from Ommegang.

Had this from a growler at The Bruery thanks to WeeHeavySD, thanks man. Kind of a dark muddy brown color. A little bit bitter, like dark chocolate, very smokey aroma. Glad to have to tried it.

Growler shared by WeeHeavySD at the Bruery (stopped by en route to the airport). Pours a murky brown with a small, tan head. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruits, coffee and a touch of smoke. Taste is chocolate with smoke and some sweet cherry syrup, wood and dark fruits. Smooth mouthfeel, light carbonation. Thanks Jon!
