Commercial Description:
The TTB won’t let us call the beer Obamagang on the keg label. So it will be known legally as Inauguration Ale 2009, but the tap handles will be more...um...direct. The style lies between a porter and stout, with a bit of Kriek and a touch of chocolate blended in. It will be on draft only, beginning with the inauguration - in limited areas including DC, NYC, Syracuse, Philly, Chicago and Boston. We will donate a percentage of sales to charities in the respective cities where the beer is sold, and we’ve asked our distributors to match our donations and pick the local charities. (Also please note that the beer is not an endorsement of Obama.)

Growler sample thanks to weeheavysd. Beautiful brown color. Earthy tastes of leather, peat and smoke. Roasted malt and coffee in the background. Very tasty stuff indeed! Thanks Jon.

Tap at GL. I’m glad I got to try this one before its gone. Pour is a muddy brown/black with frothy tan head. Aromas of smoke, peat, roasted malts, and coffee. Flavor is very smoky and coffee up front, and then finishes with caramel and roasty goodness. A very interesting brew that is well worth a try.

Growler via trade with The Beer Exchange, thanks dude. Pours black with a big stable tan head. Nose is full of sweet dark fruits and weirdly big almost bitter chocolate/coffee. Taste is sweet and rich and full of flavor with some nice cherries and chocolate and coffee. Nice brew from the boys of Cooperstown.

Draft at capones. Pours a maroon brown body with a tan head. Dark coco, dark chocolate, dark fruits...wait did i say dark? Some light dark roast, chocolate truffle with fruit and some cherries. Delicious.

Draft @ Capone’s. Darker brown color with a sweet and fruity aroma - a good amount of cherries, raisins, and brown sugar. Flavor has some mild chocolate and sugar, sour cherries, medium roast and assorted sweet flavors. This tastes like a really sweet & cherry infused dubbel with a bit of sweet stout. I dig this one - it may be a gimmick beer, but it still turned out pretty nice.

Served on draft at the Thirsty Monk in Asheville. Glad to see this still available in a liberal-leaning town 6 weeks after the inauguration. A fitting tribute to what was a transformational moment for millions. Pours a deep, dark brown color with a large ran head. Good retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel, toffee and dark fruits. Taste is dark roasted malts, toffee, bitter hops, prunes, raisin and a faint herbal note. Full bodied with a sticky texture.

This delicious beer is true to my heart. I couldn’t get it at the brewery in Cooperstown - at first - but then they let us sample it. It pours smooth, like a dark porter with a nice medium-sized head, but it’s a dark strong belgian ale. You can taste the kriek (cherries) early on the palate, and subtle, and then a smooth stout/porter taste overall, as described by most. This beer is excellent and it’s a shame it will be limited!

Draft at Tyler’s Apex, purchased by Scott from Foothills. Thanks. Pours a dark black that allow some light on the fringes. Creamy tan head. The nose is sweet, Belgian yeast, mildly fruity, some coffee, mild roast. The flavor is roasty, coffee bitterness, tobacco leaf (?), chocolate, mildly fruity, some smoke. Tastes like a Belgian Schwarzbier in my opinion.
